Mostly everyone knows about Trillian, and Trillian Pro. Just today I was offered a Beta test with the new software Trillian Astra. Which as you can see here, there are a ton of new features and fixes from the previous versions.

So far, they are only testing win32 versions of the software, and I pretty much got in instantly by signing up.

There is also a notification that says you can test out the full version for free. But it's 30 dollars for new members after 30 days, and 10 dollars for older users who already bought pro.

So far, I like it. Might pony up the 30 dollars and go ahead and abuse this. Has anyone else tried this out?

E- Whoops. Coded wrong

I am actually beta testing it right now as well. I have to say that it's impressive although I'm not a big fan of the new interface (it seems to crowded and confusing). It's still better than Windows Live Messanger by far though (for me anyways) although I would only recommend upgrading if you're really adventurous as there's not a 100% chance that you're going to like what you see (although you could always just downgrade if you don't like it ).

Welcome to WEB2.0!

but yeah, I don't need a whole lot of fanciness. The things I want in a multi-im client:

- Sign on in more than one service simultaneously (obviously)
- File transfers (doesn't work in trillian 99% of the time)
- Set my own buddy icon (bonus if you can set a different one for each service)
- Keep my services seperate (I don't need MSN users to have access to my Yahoo! or anything like that, thanks.)
- Settable custom alerts for when certain people sign on
- Logging
- Light on resources
- Text formatting
- Doesn't crash every minute of the day

Bah! I don't need hand holding with my UI. And old Trillian is incomplete, IRC feature wise.

I prefer to just get down n' dirty with mIRC and Nonamescript and my own scripting.

This was fixed in Trillian Astra. I have a pretty good connection, and with Pro, it would always download at like 20kbs (Out of my max 500kbs). But with Astra, the speed has been improved by 400%. So I would say this has been fixed in Astra.

And IRC is definitely incomplete. I connected to an IRC on an RPG server I was on and it just did not feel right. The in-game IRC was better than the one trillian has. But it's in Beta, so it should improve.

Also, you can change the skins on Astra so long as you know what you are doing. Not all of them look horrible.
