I run Windows Vista home Basic on a Compaq laptop. I wanted to change the visual style, and hence needed to patch the uxtheme.dll file present in the system32 folder. I got some pre-patched files, and just need to paste them in the folder. However, when I do try it, it says that the file is currently in use in another program. I tried booting in safe mode and doing it but that doesn't work either. Please help.

You could try getting Unlocker and seeing what is locking it and see if you can close the handler. Otherwise, you could boot in to a Linux distro and do it there.

Yeah, renaming and pasting did the trick, although my custom visual styles still don't work.
