Has anyone else noticed how many logos are being redone lately?

For the last coupe of months, whenever I go grocery shopping it seems like more things have changed. Some companies seem to be trying to make their products look more like generic-brand stuff, whereas other things are just making slight changes, or completely changing how they do packaging. I'm starting to wonder how much money is being spent on making products look 'fresh' to the eye of the consumer.

Pepsi, Hamburger Helper, Sierra Mist, Wheat Thins.. random things, but more every time I go. I feel kind of disgusted. In some cases I could see changing the packaging as being a good thing, if they were previously using too much, that sort of thing. But when nothing really changes except the appearance of the outer box to make people stop and go 'oh look something new' or whatever... feh.

'The economy sucks, let's spend millions on making our product look fancier/different so people will buy more.' =/




I don't know if anyone's already made a thread about this so forgive me if there's one somewhere I missed.

The new Pepsi logo is absolutely atrocious.

Seeing various neon-colored billboards around town with "OH BOY" or "HOWDY" (or worse, "SODY POP") with the Os replaced with the "pepsi fat guy" is just argh.

Yeah, that change just pissed me off (Mtn Dew). I'll keep drinking the raspberry citrus stuff, but I refuse to by the new bottled stuff. It's silly, I know, but .. blargh. Come on, we have enough problems with loltxtspk without companies redoing their names to 'keep up with the times.'

The only change so far that I don't mind too much is for Sierra Mist. Their packaging now actually looks.. misty. *shrug* They put out some new flavours, too, so it makes more sense for them to have a new look. .. Compared to some of the other changes, anyway. :p

The new Pepsi logo stunned me and looks awful but thankfully all our packaging in Canada still uses the old logo... for now.

I actually... don't mind the new Wal-Mart logo.

The new Pepsi logos are dumb, but I love the fact that they color coded their bottle caps for Pepsi, Diet, Zero, etc.

I don't mind the new Pepsi logo. In fact, I love the way the cans are mostly monocolor now

I do miss those designs, though.

The only new logo that I noticed was on the Tic-Tac container because me and my friends go through about two packs a week .

I don't really see the point of making new logos. I mean if I wasn't buying it before a new logo isn't going to make me want to buy it now .

I don't mind companies being innovative with their logos, and it probably doesn't cost as muc as you say; most anyone can throw together most of the box designs you see in inkscape or something in an hour.

What I kinda miss is the somewhat plain, solid colored style things took on in the 90s. Now everything seems to want to look sleek and round with lots of gradients (which look absolutely terrible for package printing). I don't know if it's just nostalgy but I hate most of the modern complex designs.

Yes, but these are big name corporations. They don't do anything that could be considered "efficient".

I saw the PepsiCo. press release last year. I loathed it. :/

The only time I get to see the old logo is when I drive by the Pepsi bottling plant nearby...

A lot of new ones are crappy, but the redesigned GeneroBrand stuff we have at Dollar General looks a hell of a lot better than the old designs. Duller, but better. Mainly because of choosing a less retarded font.

At least, I think it's the new design. We keep getting both versions in.

You'd think that, but it really does cost millions to change a logo, because you have to change.. everything else. It's not just the cost of creating the logo, it's changing the packaging, the ads, and everything else that has your logo on it. =/
