Just checkin' up on all of your hardcore tendencies. I just threw down on a P4 boss for about 25 minutes tonight and I'm pretty sure that my longest in an RPG goes to Iseria Queen off Valkyrie Profile 2 (clocked at ~51 minutes in the game) because I didn't have really good equipment and it ended up being next to fatal near the very end...I about shit my pants when I was next to losing it all 45 or so minutes in.

Sooo...yea.

Two hours? Maybe 2.5? I think it was the final boss in Lunar: Silver Star...wait...no, it was Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. I spent sooo much time trying to beat him *thinks* Wait...or was it the first Lunar....damn, now I want to play both of them again.

Only final battles/bosses that took me any kind of time to beat were the Advance Wars games... other than that, I haven't played through any games that had long boss battles. Considering I haven't beaten any RPGs ever, I probably haven't seen any of the longer bosses out there... ;;;

In Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World I ended up fighting and defeating Richter in Chapter 5, which is supposed to be a scripted loss fight but since I was on my New Game + file and stronger than you're supposed to be I actually had a fighting chance. That fight went on forever because he can heal over 1000 of his HP every three seconds or something and he's got like, 90000+. So I chose about 25 minutes.
I also remember Golden Sun The Lost Age's final boss, Doom Dragon, taking a very long time to beat but probably not as long as Richter's fight.

I think I spent around one hour in PSO when I first met De Rol Le with a severely underleveled Force. I quickly ran out of items and the only weapon I brought with me was a rather weak gun.

I agree with Xkeeper; if constant game over were to count, then the game would be Mario & Luigi PiT on the last boss. That boss gave me so many game overs I spent quite a while there trying and trying

But since it's just one battle then I guess (maybe) the Shadow Queen in Paper Mario TTYD, and it only took me like 20-30 minutes.

Well, if Game Overs actually count, it took me a good month to beat Advance Wars 1's Advance Campaign TFB back 8 years ago. Yeah.

Longest without game overs...

I'd say that one secret boss in Tales of Symphonia. The... Living Armor, I think. Though that was because it had a shitton of HP to tear through more than anything else. I mean, it wasn't hard, it just... took a while.

Counting retries/game overs... The final boss of Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. Well, when I was, like... 11 anyway. I have no idea why I had such a hard time with it, in all honesty.

Can't think of any recent examples, though so... meh. :/

You know, I'm not actually 100% sure.. I've gamed a lot over the years and have a habit of losing track of time regularly, but.. Hmm. Game Over's don't count? Does "running away" count? I "think" the longest I ever spent on a boss was in FFXI, inside Promyvion Holla. (this was back when the Promathia expansion was still new, and those areas were hard enough to require a full Alliance of players to get to. Today they've been nerfed to a remarkably easy degree..)

Anyway, I recall having failed fighting that boss countless times before, so that night I was pretty determined to win. I think my team (it took an alliance to get there, but only a group of six could fight the boss) and I spent an odd 6-8 hours in there trying to beat the Boss.. Whenever it looked like we were going to wipe out, someone who could raise would run to the exit and eject us out of the Boss Chamber. It took a very long time but we eventually won, and were probably one of the first groups on that server to have cleared that section of the Story before it got nerfed into the ground.
