| They're obviously referring to "endanger human health and welfare", as in it contributes to global warming. |

| Agreeing with overwhelming scientific consensus isn't 'loony'. |

Originally posted by ShantaeFunny thing, that. We depend on foreign oil for our domestic food supply. Petroleum based processing for fertilizer, gasoline to get the produce to market. Plastic to preserve our foods. Perhaps you've noticed that when gas prices skyrocket, food prices go up also? And no, that's not entirely due to biofuels taking a chunk out of the market; they didn't even exist in 1973, and the prices still went crazy. Quite simply, oil runs the world right now. That needs to stop, immediately; if it means that food goes up a bit and stabilizes, it's well worth not having the cost depend directly on the price of a substance that everyone knows is both finite and harmful. This is also ignoring the fact that a large portion of the western world runs on surpluses of these things--over January and February, the US exported 3 million metric tons of wheat, and 6 million of corn. The UK tends to run million ton-surpluses, as well. Originally posted by Waffle RyebreadIgnoring tidal harnesses (which are still somewhat experimental, last I checked, but awesome nonetheless) hydro plants still tend to damage the ecosystem around them. Just consider the effect of transforming rivers into lakes. (Also, comic was better with the Don Quixote panels not removed.) |
