Guilty.

Well, they tried. All four are in prison for a year and are fined $905,000.

Sad I suppose the RIAA will more aggressively litigate now. Not to mention all the amendments that could make it easier to persecute file sharers. Next semester, I think I'll write a case comment on this.

I believe you mean prosecute, but yea, file sharers are be persecuted. Personally, I'm not one for the download of movies, but I think a lot of the applications/programs floating around are a sign that people have had it with the exorbitant prices of these damn things. Seriously... Photoshop... Would you EVER buy that? I doubt many would ever be able to afford it really...

But...PB says 'epic win' anyhow.

Sukasa - Send Private Message

Well, seeing as the verdict was leaked at least an hour before the judge handed it down, this case is far from over.

Another article

The chairman of the Swedish Independent Music Producers Association, Jonas Sjöström, said as the trial concluded that the consortium is "tired and sick of services like The Pirate Bay who have no understanding or respect for the creative community, and instead have their own financial interests at heart".
Hypocrit, I must say.

Good for them.

I still neither have the money to afford most 'common' products by these people, nor do reactions like these make me want to buy even their cheapest offerings.

Who're they kidding? Even if they win, they lose, because nobody's buying. Online distribution, both legal and not, will probably destroy them in time...

They didn't really lose anything yet. The boys' lawyer said he's going to take this to the Court of Appeal and eventually even onto the Supreme Court.
So expect a final showdown in ten years or so

I love how wrong that guy is.

EDIT: Aww, what a waste of post 512.

The lawyers for Pirate Bay are seeking a retrial.

It's been discovered that the judge of the case had a conflict of interest. MAJOR conflict of interest. Not really a surprise I would think...

Pirate Bay is just epic.

Wow. That is a major conflict of interest. Can't say I'm not glad to hear it though.

That interest is the fact he is a member of the Swedish Copyright Association and several other copyright protection organizations which also count entertainment industry representatives as members.

It’s also important to note that another judge was found to have a conflict of interest for The Pirate Bay case and was excluded.

Yeah, that judgment's going to get thrown out the window pretty quickly... not saying the retrial won't go the same way but they have a DAMN strong case for one.

Uh-oh. That's the kicker.

Had they just stuck to an impartial judge, they coulda won.

Now?

I think they shot themselves in the foot with this one. The Pirate Bay people will have a field day getting this taken down.

Check this author's take on it.

Not only does she kick the crap out of the verdict but she also put her latest book in audio form on Pirate Bay for free upload. It's one of the top-ranking downloads right now...but not only that...

Interestingly she also includes a link to her PayPal account with the torrent for anyone who would like to make a donation. In just 48 hours she’s made over $3,000.

2 days.

Who says you can't make money when your stuff is torrented?
