How do they keep doing this? What the hell are we doing out there that allows them to do this? I mean, the pirates are like, teams of 4 and they manage to hijack entire ships. Fucking shoot them on the approach, bomb them, torpedo them, something. By this time I'm ready to say just bomb the hell out of the Somali coast and hope to hit them. This situation is getting ridiculous.

It's Somali and these are 17-19 year olds with heavy weaponry and reckless abandon.
That's what'll get you hijacked ships.
It's almost the same as people dropping planes on Twin Towers - they're committed.

You can't do any of that. They're not a threat yet. They're just children with guns. :/
The American sailors did a great job though. They're the first ones in recent years to fight back. The hostage even jumped in the water to reveal the men on the life boat to the snipers.

It says 4 ships on the page.
Either way, a bit silly. |

Yea, it's up to four now.
No clue what's going on out there.

How are they "not a threat?" They're hijacking ships and taking hostages and that doesn't classify them as a threat? Does someone have to die before we take serious action?
Now I know the Americans got out of the situation and all but still, I think a lot more could be done to prevent this. It's been going on for how long now with how many countries and we haven't seemingly gotten any closer to resolving the issue? As you said, they're children with guns on things that can barely be called boats. We are Mr. Big Fucking Navy with the guns and warships and we're losing. Something is very wrong with this picture.

I wouldn't say losing in the slightest...heck there've been talks about rectifying the situation from every angle...including a method that Ron Paul and a lot of others are trying to reinstate to allow private citizens to take out the pirates. If I remember correctly this was used a long time back as well.
Rest assured...I'm pretty sure the best militia in the world isn't going to let a few punk kids have their way.

Oh I'm sure we'll figure something out, I'm just surprised it's taking this long.

Which I'm surprised at seeing as it's been happening to other countries for months now. It's not like this should have been a surprise to anyone by the time the American ships started getting hijacked.

All I remember was when Obama was over in the EU and it was made mention and we was asked for comment on it during a press conference he basically said 'we're talking about the housing problem right now'.
So yea...it wasn't a priority for him until at least a day later. But hey at least it's getting done!

I guess so. I dunno, for some reason I just feel really strongly about this whole situation. The inanity of it to me I guess.
Big Fucking Gun versus Rinky-Dinky Boat. Who should win here?

Well it's not like we're in an age anymore that someone pisses on us and then we go over and drop, not twenty bomb, not thousand bomb...two bomb...and make a whole race of men's penises shrink from the impact.
No apparently you have to do a lot more than hi-jack a few ships to grab the full ire of everyone in this country anymore. That's probably why you didn't see a mass blaster in Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11 even though we could've done so easily.

Yeah but I'm not even talking nukes or anything. Just get some artillery and hit them out of the water as they approach or something. Or get submarine escorts with torpedoes. Something.

Well yea...I just think it's going to end up being something more than just hijacked ships, though. As far as I know Somalia is flailing as a country right now as it is...so you have to wonder if that isn't part of the motive.

Like, saying that these pirates are "governent"-funded by the Somalis? I wouldn't be surprised honestly.

That's the gist of it, yes. Though they've Somalia gov't has already stated that they don't condone the fact that this is happening, you don't really see them jumping on it to fix it themselves...and you can only take something like that with a grain of salt.
If you saw the same coming from the US to some other country without seemingly good reason (what would there be for pirating) said country and probably the rest of the world would be all over us.

I'm surprised actually at how the rest of the world hasn't jumped on these guys either, considering that they hijacked ships from quite a few nations. But I guess if you're not blowing up shit, fighting wars or launching rockets, no one's gonna care.
