Basically run by typical lobbyist scum.

Despite these attempts to make the “movement” appear organic, the principle organizers of the local events are actually the lobbyist-run think tanks Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works. The two groups are heavily staffed and well funded, and are providing all the logistical and public relations work necessary for planning coast-to-coast protests.

You know what's really funny is that nobody making less than $250,000 had their taxes go up, making this whole event more or less an absolute joke.

Won't matter what you say or think it is...It's happening country-wide tomorrow.

You act as if this whole "tea party" thing is actually something big that is worth even considering.

Media hopes it won't be.

Democrats definitely hope it won't be.

Wait. So you're saying they don't have a right to be funded? I mean most of the left-wing rallies I've seen have been funded by good 'ol 'moveon.org.' If they can do that, I see nothing wrong with this.

Not to mention that left-wing gets to do this shit all the time and when the right-wing does it...this gets thrown back at them? :\

Naw I see this as a fair and good thing, actually.

I mean, fuck, if you didn't bother to read the damn article:

Protesters have no idea what they're talking about. At Tea Parties that have taken place over the last few days, attendees are more concerned with Obama's birth certificate than high taxes or government spending. Fringe gun groups, secessionists, anti-immigration activists and neo-Nazis are out in force.

Wait. So you're saying they don't have a right to be funded? I mean most of the left-wing rallies I've seen have been funded by good 'ol 'moveon.org.' If they can do that, I see nothing wrong with this.

Oh, no, that isn't what I'm saying. Just that they're trying to make it look like it's done by the people instead of by Generic Conglomo Corp #927.

(P.S., MoveOn is actually funded mostly by contributions and donations, not corporate money)

I already said I'm waiting for the results tomorrow.

I don't care about the propaganda for or against at this point.

I, for one, will be at work.

I'm not a political person, so don't expect me to post again here. Hell, what I'm about to say is barely on topic.

I'm only here to say that I can't keep a straight face when I hear news about this. I play first person shooters, so I can't help but remember all the kids screaming into their mics, yelling whatever obscenity or taunt as they tap the crouch button on their downed victims.

But yeah. Politics are quite something. Yeah.

Case in point, Tanks:

Article

Yesterday, Think Progress reported on Republican lawmakers planning to speak at anti-Obama “tea party” protests taking place nationwide on April 15. Last night, Eric Odom of the DontGo website — one of the organizers of the protests — wrote a blog post stressing that these protests are displays of “regular American[s] in protest of government spending and extreme taxation,” rather than something affiliated with a political party or special interest agenda.

Today on Fox News — which has actively been promoting the protests — Glenn Beck pushed the tea party talking points, similarly claiming that the protests aren’t “coordinated” and are fully organized by “regular” people. (Video at link)

Well you have to understand. That's where the money's at for the right-wing movement. The left-wing movement just gets its money from another source, the rich celebrities.

So right-wing gets its money from many people who come together and form a corporation that donates money while the left-wing just gets its money from those who are sitting high and mighty in their big mansions. Now I'm exaggerating here, but these are basically the majority of donators for either side.

Going back to organization... They are organized by regular people. I know one them. They're simply given money and spot to hold the protest. That's it. It's fully organized by average people.

Wait, what?

I guess you missed it, but MoveOn has a max allowable contribution of $5,000 per person (due to being a political group). Same with Obama's political contributions; the maximum was about $2,700 (± $400)

I... wow. What?

Are you trying to say that the liberal groups are funded by only the biggest names, while the right-wing is more tons of people in these corporations?

Because that's the only thing I can get out of this and it's so incredibly wrong it's not even funny.

Oh right...I forgot about this one...

The Department of Homeland Security warns against right wing movement.

The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in "rightwing extremist activity," saying the economic recession, the election of America's first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

I'd say they're definitely afraid.

Hint: Being given money to organize something isn't fully organizing something.

Fully organizing something is taking your time to go and get this shit ready, not being handed money and talking points to cover, along with advertising all over a certain network.

I'd say they're definitely afraid.

Glenn Beck on Fox News has been encouraging people to go out there and defend their rights because they've been "getting taken away" (or whatever it was he said, I forget the specifics). Gun purchase rates are now though the roof.

Not even a week ago, somebody shot and killed 3 police officers because of all of this "they're taking my rights" shit.

And again, read the fucking first article:

Protesters have no idea what they're talking about. At Tea Parties that have taken place over the last few days, attendees are more concerned with Obama's birth certificate than high taxes or government spending. Fringe gun groups, secessionists, anti-immigration activists and neo-Nazis are out in force.

So, worried that violence might erupt out of these? I would hardly call that being scared. I would call that being realistically cautionary.
