Do you believe that anyone's arguments are valid after this phrase is uttered? It seems to be commonplace to think that the government is witholding information from the general populus, but would you honestly believe that the government has absolutely nothing better to do with its time than to acquire knowledge about something, and then brainwash the masses through TV, news, schools, etc?

Bonus points if there's a religion that "knows the truth that the government doesn't want you to know"

I believe there are lots of things the government doesn't want us to know, but the overwhelming majority of people who claim to have this "inside information" are completely insane.

Obviously, the government withholds lots of information from the public, but it's certainly not the whole "new world order" thing.

Generally, the things said before this are more than enough to render the entire thing invalid.

That's completely legitimate depending on who your speaking to. I can't say one thing about another race to my cousin unless I use that phrase. I'm automatically labeled a 'profiler' for pointing something out if I do not make mention to the fact I'm not racist.

Of course the government knows things we don't, they hide stuff from us in the interest of national security. I don't go around starting rumors about such information nor do I believe conspiracies and crazy people claiming stuff about the government.

Yet that's what we have newspapers for...

Obviously they know stuff that we're not supposed to know, but I doubt any of it is ground-breaking or world-changing news. :\

Someone was talking about conspiracy theories at work a few weeks ago and I was extremely tempted to turn around and tell him to STFU.

The government is a shambling giant, incapable of squelching the truth long enough for it to matter.

With the advent of the internet, I guarantee we know more about things today than we ever knew about the government before; as long as lanes of information such as the internet exist, conspiracy theories and nonsense remain in the dark ages.

I remember some comedy show that had a bit where people would take turns saying "The government doesn't want you to know", followed by something hilariously ridiculous, but I don't remember what it was from now.
