Mine isn't grouped at all since only a few people contact me on IM now... so I deleted the majority of entries on there. :\

Just a "Friends" list.

I used to group mine by what kind of people they were. Internet, college, highschool, family, whatever.

That never worked that great.

Now I have three groups: "Yes", "No", and "Rarely". This is by the chances I'll want to start a conversation with the person if I see them online.

This works much better.

Also: if there was a way I could turn aliases on and off with a single button press, I'd totally make everybody's alias like the ones shown in that link.

Same here, I don't group them because I only have a few. I used to have a lot but every time I don't talk to someone much (or someone stops logging in) I remove them.

Just got everyone under buddies.

No need to organize it though. Real life friends all use MSN. My High School classmate uses Yahoo and everybody else (internet friends) use AIM.

I barely use Trillian though. I do most of my talking in IRC.

Mine's organized in to Individuals (MSN/GTalk) and Buddies/Family (AIM). No extra sorting needed since it mostly works out that online people end up in MSN and IRL people end up in AIM. Interesting how that works... Of course, the foreign people would be less likely to have AIM accounts.
