There's a trope for that. Sadly I forget what it's called.

Just be careful not to get lost in that place. It'll eat up all your time.

Reminds me of one episode of House where he's playing Metroid Fusion. The sound effects are wrong, but he's playing it nonetheless.

Well it's just a general rule that all video games sound like the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, isn't it? Though it is strange when it applies to games that you can see what's going on...

I remember that episode, I was just impressed that he was playing a real identifiable video game.

TV shows and movies do that with a lot of things. e.g. "I'll track his IP with a GUI I'll make in Visual Basic" XD

I remember that House episode as well. It was Zero Mission iirc. And yes I was all "wtf those aren't the sounds!"

Yeah, that annoys when I'm when I'm watching something, and they want something to sound real technical they throw in a bunch computer related terms, but use them in complete the wrong context.

I was watching one of those cheesy SciFi original movies, and someone actual said he was rich because his father "invented Linux". In that same movie, someone sent a secret message over "scrambled internet".

Or when someone is working at a computer, it's somehow supposed to seem more high tech to have text print out character at a time while making a buzzing sound.

The best, is when modern movies use dialup sounds.

That makes me giggle.

I hate zoom magnification in TV shows but I think I'll let Kabutroid explain why we hate it:

I remember seeing a scene in some movie (Enemy of the State?) where some guys ROTATED the scene in a photograph to find out what was in someone's bag.

Yeah, I'm not exactly thrilled with Hollywood's portrayal of technology.

It happens in ads, too, I remember some kid, sitting in a bathtub, playing a PSP upside-down.

Two moronic mistakes at once!

IronMan and its magical translating media player. Out of all the things in that movie that was the only one that even seem remotely plausible. Isn't that kind of sad?

I swear I saw a commercial or TV show once where the kids were playing a PS2 game but they were CLEARLY using a GameCube controller.

That stuff pisses me off, and not just when it comes to video games. Seriously... there's not ONE person there who knows a little bit about the subject material? At least put in a little effort on accuracy, whether the show itself is great or not.

I remember Full House had Game Gears that worked without cartridges (and played "Ballerinas of Death"), and an SNES that made amusing "death" noises when the cartridge was pulled out (and started working again immediately after the cartridge was reinserted). An entire episode was based around the latter, even!

I remember there was some old old nicks kids show with a black family and a big yellow frog... The one episode I actually stopped to watch had the kid sitting on a hammock playing a gameboy (With no cartridge might I add) and he was hitting the buttons furiously. Like, the gameboy was all over the place. If there was a spot on the screen untouched by the gameboy, the kid would swing his arms to it. Then his sister shows up and screws him up. *Insert generic video game death noise that cannot have possibly been uttered through the GB speaker* "Awww... I was about to get the Banana Quadrant!" I felt like strangling the kid...

What about the movie, The Wizard, where one of the arcade cabinets is playing a game that never was ON an arcade cabinet? I recall hearing something about that.
