Instructions: Answer each question as clearly as possible and show all your work. Same as the last time, if you don't know the answer, make stuff up. Good luck!

I. Biology (Mixed answer, 24 points)

1. If milk comes from cows, does butter come from butterflies? (4)
No, hurricanes come from butterflies. Butter comes from Butter Building.

2. Describe the reproductive system of an eyestalk. (6)
You first.

3. Of the following, which is at the top of the food chain? Explain your answer. (6)
Godzilla, because he can just step on everyone else.

4. A cultive of bacteria starts out at 300 cells. If the population after three hours is 9001 cells, and doubles every three hours, how fast are they reproducing and how long do we have until they mutate into a strain of super-flu that will infect all of mankind and destroy civilization as we know it? (8)
At this point I don't think it matters

II. Computer Science III (Short answer, 30 points)

1. According to security expert Mike Sandy, how many proxies do you need to be behind in order to avoid detection? (6)
Doesn't matter, Xkeeper will still find you.

2. union("FALCON PAWNCH!", 0, inf) = ? (6)
Out of Memory error

3. What does the following code do? (6)

#include <stdio.h>

#include <stdlib.h>

int main()
{
int i;
bool moron;
char *username[1000];

for (i=0; i<1000; i++)
{
if (username[i] == moron || username[i] == "Mega-Mario")
{
username[i] == 'NULL';
terminate;
}
}

return 0;
}

I can tell you what it won't do: compile.

4. Which of the following items are Turing-complete? Justify your answer. (6)
All four. Stupid begets stupid, after all, and the other three are perfectly capable of emulating an entire world

5. Given a string of length 32 over an alphabet A of cardinality 256, and the cipher 8x + 4 mod 32, how many collisions will occur before the rescue teams arrive on the scene? (6)
None, because they're not coming.

Instructions: Answer each question as clearly as possible and show all your work. Same as the last time, if you don't know the answer, make stuff up. Good luck!

Ninetales: "Make stuff up...?"

Ninetales stared down at the paper blankly. As a transfer student, and a naturally shy one, he wasn't entirely comfortable yet in this new class. It didn't help any that he hadn't taken the first midterm this professor had given, but to have another one sprung on him on his first day...

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he tried to focus on the words that were swimming in front of his eyes...

I. Biology (Mixed answer, 24 points)

1. If milk comes from cows, does butter come from butterflies? (4)
- No, butter comes from the refrigerator aisle of the supermarket.

2. Describe the reproductive system of an eyestalk. (6)
- Eyes cannot regenerate at all, so they have no reproductive system.

3. Of the following, which is at the top of the food chain? Explain your answer. (6)

Lion
Snake
Tiger
Kyle Ward
Godzilla
Chris Hansen

- None of these are in a food chain with each other, so either none are at the top or they are all at the top of their own food chains.

4. A cultive of bacteria starts out at 300 cells. If the population after three hours is 9001 cells, and doubles every three hours, how fast are they reproducing and how long do we have until they mutate into a strain of super-flu that will infect all of mankind and destroy civilization as we know it? (8)
- Each cell is reproducing at a rate of one division every three hours. However, since flu is caused by a virus and not bacteria, the cells will never mutate into a strain of the flu, though they may cause flu-like symptoms.

Ninetales paused and re-read the questions he'd just answered. Something seemed off about them, but he couldn't really tell what... Maybe he just didn't know enough about biology to pass this test.

II. Computer Science III (Short answer, 30 points)

1. According to security expert Mike Sandy, how many proxies do you need to be behind in order to avoid detection? (6)
- It is impossible to avoid being detected at all, since most web traffic is logged. Proxies do not keep one's activity from being logged, though they do usually hide the perpetrator's IP.

2. union("FALCON PAWNCH!", 0, inf) = ? (6)
- Ø (empty set).

3. What does the following code do? (6)

#include <stdio.h>

#include <stdlib.h>

int main()
{
int i;
bool moron;
char *username[1000];

for (i=0; i<1000; i++)
{
if (username[i] == moron || username[i] == "Mega-Mario")
{
username[i] == 'NULL';
terminate;
}
}

return 0;
}

- This code does not compile, due to several syntax errors.

4. Which of the following items are Turing-complete? Justify your answer. (6)

-Sticks and stones
-LBP
-An abacus
-George W. Bush

Ninetales blinked. This was Computer Science? It didn't seem like it...

- Only Little Big Planet is Turing-complete.

5. Given a string of length 32 over an alphabet A of cardinality 256, and the cipher 8x + 4 mod 32, how many collisions will occur before the rescue teams arrive on the scene? (6)

Rescue teams?

Ninetales couldn't figure out a logical answer to that question. Rescue teams didn't care about cipher collisions...did they?

- Since there are many potential collisions with the encoded string, any number of collisions may occur, due to no rescue team in their right mind responding to a call regarding cipher collisions.

Thoroughly confused at the questions asked, Ninetales walked to the front of the class to turn in his test.

Ninetales: "Erm, professor...? I think I might be in the wrong class..."

While the professor was distracted with the other student, Tewi took out some incredibly thin hard to see, but strong thread, and began to fiddle with it, and some other objects under the desk

"Damn, I'm not going fast enough, I may have to stall for time if I don't hurry....."

I. Biology (Mixed answer, 24 points)

1. If milk comes from cows, does butter come from butterflies? (4)

"Hm.. I suppose that depends on what type of butterflies... Clearly, the normal kind won't produce any.. wait a minute, what kind of logic is this question based on?"

Kirbynite writes 'No'.

2. Describe the reproductive system of an eyestalk. (6)

"Since when do eyes produce life?"

Kirbynite leaves question two blank.

3. Of the following, which is at the top of the food chain? Explain your answer. (6)

Lion
Snake
Tiger
Kyle Ward
Godzilla
Chris Hansen

"Is this asking for which of them are actually at the top, or is it asking which of them is the highest one.. I'm pretty sure I can think of other things that're higher up in the chain that don't exist according to 'normal' people.."

"...."

"What's that.."

"Er..."

"WHOA! I'M GETTING OUT OF THIS CORNER!"

.......

"Professor, I'll have to skip out on this test on account to my paper being eaten."

((This took me about two hours with distractions. Normally, I'd get annoyed by this fact, but not this time. I think I had too much fun.. and I was probably too distracted.))

Ninetales looked back at the corner of the room, where a large...was that a ghost?...had plowed through the wall and eaten one student's paper....

Ninetales: "......"

Returning to his seat, he wondered if this sort of thing happened often at this school. He wasn't used to this... nonsensical tests and strange happenings were not the sort of things that occurred at his old school...

William: Well then, let's continue.

He looked down at the test.

---

4. A cultive of bacteria starts out at 300 cells. If the population after three hours is 9001 cells, and doubles every three hours, how fast are they reproducing and how long do we have until they mutate into a strain of super-flu that will infect all of mankind and destroy civilization as we know it? (8)

---

William flipped his desk over, then pulled out a laptop. After a few clicks an ACME delivery guy showed up with a table, put some tea on it, and handed William a clipboard. William signed for the package and the delievery guy left promptly.

William then flipped over the table with tea on it.

Sukasa leaned over and whispered to the transfer student, not knowing his name.

"Psst... Don't worrk about nine-ball. Things like that just happen, ignore them and you'll be fine. Also, this class is just wierd. Stick around, I think you'll grow to like it eventually."

I. Biology (Mixed answer, 24 points)

1. If milk comes from cows, does butter come from butterflies? (4)

Yes, because I Can't Believe It's Not ButterTM

2. Describe the reproductive system of an eyestalk. (6)

Tears. Lots of tears. Well technically, it's not tears, but that's gross.

3. Of the following, which is at the top of the food chain? Explain your answer. (6)

Lion
Snake
Tiger
Kyle Ward
Godzilla
Chris Hansen

Godzilla. He is the only being that can instill fear in the Japanese people and keep them from taking over the world.

4. A cultive of bacteria starts out at 300 cells. If the population after three hours is 9001 cells, and doubles every three hours, how fast are they reproducing and how long do we have until they mutate into a strain of super-flu that will infect all of mankind and destroy civilization as we know it? (8)

They are producing at 3 N* and we have unti-OVER NINE-THOUUUSSSANNNNNNNNDDDDD!!!!!!!one

*N is my own unit and will be defined in my upcoming textbook.

II. Computer Science III (Short answer, 30 points)

1. According to security expert Mike Sandy, how many proxies do you need to be behind in order to avoid detection? (6)

Fuck Mike Sandy, he's wrong.

2. union("FALCON PAWNCH!", 0, inf) = ? (6)

It equals everything that ever was and shall be getting jacked in the face by Captain Falcon. Which also equals true.

3. What does the following code do? (6)

#include <stdio.h>

#include <stdlib.h>

int main()
{
int i;
bool moron;
char *username[1000];

for (i=0; i<1000; i++)
{
if (username[i] == moron || username[i] == "Mega-Mario")
{
username[i] == 'NULL';
terminate;
}
}

return 0;
}

It keeps us safe until we hit user #1001.

4. Which of the following items are Turing-complete? Justify your answer. (6)

-Sticks and stones
-LBP
-An abacus
-George W. Bush

Wait. Prove that you're Turing complete. Because I'm not going to sit here and take this from a goddamned machine.

5. Given a string of length 32 over an alphabet A of cardinality 256, and the cipher 8x + 4 mod 32, how many collisions will occur before the rescue teams arrive on the scene? (6)

The rescue teams aren't coming. You're on your own. ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO RESCUE THE PRESIDENT?
