You guys didn't know? Haha, this place banned detergent a while ago. Namely, the stuff with phosphates.

BMF took a trip to Coeur d'Alene (or whatever, in Idaho) last week and picked up some more since we're running low.

Naturally, everybody's been pissed.

The whole thing about this was Dr. Environmentalist though that most of the phosphates in Spokane River came from here... well, no. A lot of them come from Idaho, too, making the ban completely fucking worthless, not to mention that even the developers of these products were warning them they had no (good) substitute ready.

I'm amazed California didn't do this first. Our emissions laws basically neutered/slaughtered any performance cars being made here when it was first introduced.

Of course, when YELLOW GAS COMES FROM THE SKIES AND BURNS YOU it makes sense.

Unlike the phosphate thing. I think they should make it more like 5.0, not 0.5. Maybe give coupons to aid in obtaining water softeners.

Or just develop better freaking detergent.

I'm all for a greener environment but seriously, this sort of stuff is just dumb. If you're going to make your products eco-friendly, make sure the fucking product does its job.

But hey that doesn't stop them from closing off vasts amounts of lands for domestic oil and now the off-shore drilling's going south. GM's taken over, so there's most of your Trucks/SUVs that are worth it gone...and of course that makes it more government-dependent when it hits 4 bucks a gallon again this year when our dependency on foreign oil shoots up this summer. You're not going to have the freedom to get much of anything if this keeps up.

Like I said...this environment-friendly movement can really suck it. Gore can suck it...shit...we're in a global cooling...not warming.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks this is a good idea. Right now there's no phosphate free detergent that works well because no incentive create one. As long as the normal stuff is available, most people will just buy that. Make phosphate free detergents mandatory, and every manufacture will be racing to be the first one to develop something that actually works.

Doesn't really work on a small scale like this, since people will just go one county over, but you have to start somewhere.

Yes, you are. There's a reason the rest of the country agreed to delay it for a year -- explicitly so that they actually had a chance to develop something instead of SURPRISE, NO PHOSPHATES!.

You have to actually live here to know how bad the outrage was... pretty much in every paper. The fact it did absolutely fucking nothing to curb "phosphates in the river, onoz" sure helped, too.

Same reason why non-smokers don't care about a 60 cent hike for cigarettes, the largest ever made AND bigger than the other seven that have gone through. Only when it affects you will people be pissed it seems...but don't worry, there seems to be a growing amount of reasons as of late so I'm sure you'll find something.

And hey...make sure you thank your smokers the next time you go out...since most of that money will go to health care and saving the children and whatnot. They are giving up about 38 billion dollars in the next 5 years to that alone so...

Fact of the matter is, they're going about the greener movement in the fashion of 'you have no choice' or 'let's belittle the people that aren't green because you're OOOOOOOOOO EVIL' even IF what they propose doesn't work or is worse than what we're already in. If they've got a more efficient way of doing things that doesn't lose out and is BETTER than I don't think anyone...ANYONE...has a problem with such a thing. I don't think there's a single person here that wants their environment to erode; hell, we all live here. But when there's movement like this that seeks to blame a lot of people more than fix things then it gets us nowhere.

The detergent is just one facet of things royally screwed in the greener movement...but hey, you know, we're too incompetent to know any better so we'll just let the government sort out what we need to use and do for the rest of our days. People couldn't really care on the majority if it doesn't affect them.

And that's exactly why nothing ever gets taken down against this movement. At least on their end they have a lot of proactive people doing whatever they want. The only time there's really any major opposition is when people get pissed, it lasts a short amount of time...and then they just take it up the ass and get used to it.

Same goes for cigarettes, oil drilling, health care, what have you. It's all on the government so let them do everything for you.

If you couldn't guess, I don't like that idea in the least. They do most of the 'fucking it up' anyways...regardless of who's in the hot seat for party.

That can go to research on fixing things like, uh, lung cancer, or improving services to treat it, among a million other things. It's really not some sort of money drain.

Actually that's exactly right. People don't care if their environment is being destroyed if it isn't immediately effecting them. They especially don't care if it won't effect them at all, but instead will effect their children. Make them use slightly less effective dish washer detergent for a little while, though...

Point in case: When gas was cheap, most people were against offshore drilling, when gas got expensive most people supported it.
