How many languages are you fluent in?
I'm assuming you're already fluent in English.

Yea...per my knowledge, I don't think those under Kansai'd be saying anything like 'hockey hosers, eh?'.

More like anything ending in -ze. -ze...eh? I guess they sound similar.

Just English. I should speak Spanish seeing as it's my heritage but I don't very well, even after 3 years of classes and being partially exposed at home. I can understand it in conversations somewhat well though, picking out key words if I try hard. I think I'd want to learn some Japanese because it's interesting.

I guuuuuess....I will be the first to admit we have some truly ridiculous round-about phrases for asking and answering simple-ass questions (like HOW ARE YOU), but other than that...we get pegged as a loud bunch with strange pronunciation who like to run yellow lights. Or...something

Also, tongue roll...or almost so.

Must stop now before overload.

English.

I know SOME spanish (it was started in 6th grade for me) but my godawful AP class which I ended up thrown into for part of the year basically killed it. I'm worse than I was last year.

Portuguese (native) and English. I can read/communicate reasonably in Spanish as its similar to portuguese, but I wouldn't consider me fluent. I have been studying french for about a year, so perhaps it may become my third (fluent) language .

I agree, I can read and understand Portuguese rather well (I'm fluent in Spanish) but I'm not fluent in it because I can't say much in the language.

I can only speak English fluently. I took a few years of Spanish in Elementary school and learned absolutely nothing from it. I learned a good bit in freshman year of high school but I've forgotten most of it.

Right now I'm only fluent in English although I've always wanted to learn Japanese. Does anyone know of any good ways to learn it?

I've been using My Japanese Coach for the DS. But I stopped. I should pick it up again.

Primary language is English. Also supposed to be learning Spanish in school.
But it's not working.

With Japanese once you understand sentence structure and modifiyers, it should be easy to pick up words from Anime and such.

Learning to write Japanese is a different story.

Anya, I've heard some good things about that piece of software, but I've not tried it myself. My languages are: English (fluent), Spanish (have not spoken it in 12 years though, since graduating from high school), and Japanese (intermediate level -- completed the level 7 kanji kentei, can read about 800 to 900 kanji and write about 400 to 450).

Yeah Kaguya, writing is very challenging, I find myself missing a stroke especially writing the 4th grade kanji.

Erika, I remember when I heard Kansai-ben being spoken for the first time a few years ago. Since I was used to the standard dialect, I was taken aback when I heard it. It's not that bad when you get used to it. (Listening to the comedy group "Downtown" will do that to you.)

Why does everyone want to learn Japanese? Is just the whole anime/video game thing?

Yeah, it probably is.

Plus being able to understand things without translations/subtitles is always nice.
