I plan to turn all of my lights on. But really, I'll be at work, where we use a hell of a lot of electricity 24/7.

I'm pretty sure that most of the people at my campus would die if they had to turn their computers off for an hour XD.

Also: with a lot of appliances, turning it off for an hour and then turning it back on can use more electricity than just leaving it alone. Refrigerators and air conditioners are the most likely to do that kind of thing.

I thought it was just lights. Yea, sorry, if I am home I am not turning off everything just because people think this will save some energy/whatever.

Oh, is it just lights?

That's a lot better idea, really. Makes more sense than that don't-buy-gas day certainly.

Aw, they're doing that again?

They shoved that down our throats last year on TV. I didn't turn my computer off since I was downloading something at the time. Priorities, you know.

I did this last year and I didn't start having withdrawals because I couldn't use the computer for an hour .

I'll probably do it again this year too, even if it doesn't make that big of a difference .

So is this supposed to be just some sort of statement or it expected to actually make some dent in world power consumption (and thereby greenhouse gas output)? If it's the lather, that's just silly, and if its the former I think if you care about the environment than a better statement would be setting an example of responsible energy use every hour of every other day of the year.

I try to turn off my computers before I leave for work (and if no one else is home) mainly to cut back on my own power bill.

I celebrated my own Earth Hour at 5AM last night.

Seriously, though, maybe it'll make a tiny difference, but it won't last, will it?

Yeah, my parents are going to participate and turn off the lights. Last year nobody in the neighborhood did...

Pics from Earth Hour. I'm surprised that people didn't take advantage of the darkness....especially in Vegas.

Wow, I didn't actually realize it had since passed.
I worked the 28th, so I couldn't have reminded everyone anyways.

I worked on that date as well. Lights were on all night long.

Well, it's either you turned off the lights or dimmed them.

Obviously you need to have SOME essential lighting to prevent robberies and crimes from taking place.

I turned off what I could but we had a party for my dad that night so all the lights weren't going off, no way.

I got the figures back on some of this.

Absolutely zilch change...and the places where it showed a little change showed more CO2 releases into the atmosphere because of the massive light-up slash power surge when 9:30 rolled around which made things WORSE (for the environmentalists, at least).

Good game.

I had a half successful during Earth Hour. I turned off all of the main lights although I still need a flashlight to do my math homework (a candle wasn't bright enough )

The people in my hostel turned off the main power supply of the entire building. So everything except my laptop.
