I was three, and I started with The Legend of Zelda.

It took me two years to finish it.

I was 4. At least that's when I actually remember playing my first video game. It was the original Mario. But my parents did have an Atari, so it might be earlier than that.

I don't know the exact age, but my parents did buy a NES before I was born, so I guess pretty much straight away.

I got a NES bundle thing on my 4th birthday. SMB, Duck Hunt, and that track and field game. I usually say that's when I remember playing games, but then I have these contradictory memories of me playing Donkey Kong Jr. on some system.. that had a word processor, and a controller that had a dial and a keypad on it.

My mom tells me that I had an interest in games as far back as one year old, or perhaps even younger than that. She said that my eyes would focus on something moving on the screen, and I'd make sounds when the player (my uncle, who loved playing video games) would screw up or make it. When I got a bit older, still don't know how old I was, but it couldn't have been older than 2, I had, one day, woke up and tried to play the video game I always saw my uncle play. My mom had taught me on how to be careful with electronic equipment (which always freaked people out when they saw me get near some electronics), so I had no problem setting up whatever console the game (which was Frogger from what my mom describes) was on.

Sometime later, my mom wakes up after hearing me yell. She runs out to the living room, and finds me sprawled out on the couch, in a position that said "I am fed up with this, and I don't know what's wrong with it". I was apparently angry at the fact that I couldn't play the game as how I thought I could play. I knew the rules of the game, I know what happens when I move the character, and what would happen to that character if it interacted with something. I just lacked the motor skills to play properly, and I was frustrated over that.

I imagine I must have been ecstatic when I finally had the motor skills to take on Frogger.

Side note: I take pride in the fact that I never break my controllers in a fit of anger. Even as a toddler I did not break a controller after a bout of frustration.

I was 2 years old when I first started playing video games. My parents had owned and NES even before I was born and it wasn't long before I started playing Super Mario Bros. and Megaman 2

Wow, so far very young for everyone.

I wonder what the distribution would be like for a more normal sample set of people.

I've been told I already played when I was 1, and that I was able to recognize Mario even younger.

I have a video of me playing Kirby's Adventure from when I was 2, too. I even knew about the UFO there!

Earliest I can recall is 5, when I got my SNES as a birthday present. I'm not sure if I got my first gameboy (and tetris/some yoshi themed game) before or after that, though.

I started playing video games when I was 1 or 2 years old. My parents owned a NES when I was born, but unfortunately they had to give it away (for some reason) before I was able to play it, so I wasn't able to grow up with it. I have slight memories of watching my parents play, though. (In particular, Zelda and Clu Clu Land.)

Instead, I grew up with an Amiga 500! I'm not sure which is the first game I've ever played on it (probably Bubble Bobble or Pac-Man), but I definitely spent a lot of my time at it, back then. (We didn't get a "normal" PC until much later (when I was 6), which might be part of the reason.)

I also played a lot of SNES at my grandparents'. We also had a SNES at home, but I forgot when exactly we got it (could be as late as 1994, so it might not count)

About 3. Started on an ancient DOS-Based PC playing SimCity. I abused the FUNDS cheat horribly too. Ended up playing a lot of cool DOS games back in the day like Word Rescue, Duke Nukem, Cosmo's Cosmic Quest, Empire, etc.

I got a NES when I was about 5 or so and spent far too many hours playing SMB2 (I liked it more than 1 or 3). Dad used to buy me cheap NES games whenever he went away. I think that phase of my youth defined "nintender" (Where your hands go numb from too much NES playing! ).

Ah, the good old days.

4, I started with SMB3, SMB, Zelda, and some NES golf game.

Strangely, as a young kid I was better at the golf game than any of the others. Given a bit of time I got better at SMB3, but I've still never beaten the first Zelda...

Geez... I got my NES in around 1987 or 1988 so I'll be nice and put down 5.

Problem is that I don't know if the first game I played was SMB or Crystal Castles in the arcade.

and some NES golf game.

...I'm gonna GUESS that it was Golf. (Unless the graphics were nice, then it's NES Open Tournament Golf.)

Nope. Neither of 'em. Thought about it for a moment, actually, and it's this one.

My first eagle was a shot out of a bunker.
