It is, actually. Case in point, XKEEPERSIPO (G:\) =P

But...

- iPods have a "database". They don't just read files in certain folders like most other media players do.
- MP3s on iPods have random, gibberish names.

I uninstalled iTunes and started using Floola for mine (freeware manager). Much better, not as death-grippy as iTunes is.

So, I'm getting a new laptop, and trying to figure out what OS(s) to put on it.

Do you think it's too early to make Windows 7 my Windows partition?

Yes, that is a bit early. I'd hold off until an official release.

If you're seriously considering a 7 OS, I would go Windows Vista Ultimate (no other version). I'm not a Vista lover at all but there are currently no intentions by Microsoft to make an XP ---> 7 upgrade available even though there's a sharp amount of people that didn't upgrade to Vista because they knew how much crap it was.

I would also say 7 Ultimate as well when the time comes...however if you're purchasing it (I give the credit that people will) it will run around the 500 dollar range, last I heard. Should include both a 32-bit and 64-bit OS disc, though.

I never really trust the upgrading process from OS to OS, you usually pull a lot of cruft from the old OS. I think whenever you are thinking about installing a new OS, a fresh wipe would be best. I wonder how big of a partition to run decent amount of things in Windows7. For XP-SP3, you need at least 10GiBs-~4GiB for the OS/Swap and ~4GiB for Programs and Games, unless you do not mind leveraging a linux partition for site of program installation and what not.

I have yet to use Vista but I am looking forward to Windows 7.

Release Candidate site...oops?

Seems the RC will go to June 2010.

The supposed release? 7/7.

Glad to see they're that confident about it. I think I'm going to checked into the leaked RC sometime today.

what

This is probably another reason I'm moving over to Linux... Windows just keeps getting more expensive and with XP support dropping soon...

Linux still has a bit of catching up to do before I make a complete switch. As for dealing with the price, well, TPB works wonders.

Once Valve gets the Steam service running under Linux, I'm game for switching over.

My dad's going to dual-boot our other computer, to give my mom a taste of Linux, and hopefully switch our laptop over completely.

Or if you're a MS DEV you can get it now.

The likelihood is this has been leaked somewhere. So do your searches.

Yea no kidding...there's been reports of a LOT of fake torrents for it.

Yeah, most of the time it's the Chinese Beta build with an English language hack applied, and have build numbers greater than 7100.

Hey hey, looks like the cat is out of the bag about a top secret feature in Windows 7!
Remember how Apple included MacOS Classic in a Virtual Machine-type of environment in MacOSX? Well, Microsoft is doing something similar.
Introducing Windows XP Mode! It's a full install of Windows XP SP3 inside an integrated VM in Windows 7. It integrates with Windows 7 so that you can have programs run in a virtualized Windows XP without requiring a separate VM window. You can even have shortcuts in the Start Menu to XP Mode apps! However it has a bit higher processor requirement, and it's a separate download (but free to anyone with Windows 7).

Pretty awesome!

Alright that's it, I'm officially switching when the release comes around...

The "release" that is.
