Why is it that whenever Cirvante posts, he always seems to be in the middle of midterms or testing weeks or something. Do you ever NOT have tests?

Ar Tonelico II is a great game.

NIS America is a great localization and translation company.

Ar Tonelico II's NA release is a buggy craphole. There are game breaking bugs in it...like literally there's a boss that, if there's a particular move that gets used, will lock the game.

That isn't the only bug.

How can you bug up a localization though? That doesn't seem very likely....

Delete moves from a JP release and forgot to remove remnants in them that cause a crash is one. Not translating voices all the way and mixing Japanese and English audio in-battle is another. Not translating certain spots and leaving actual Kanji left over...leaving spots that cause [] blocks of text to appear...

The list goes on...it was shitty. Passable, but shitty for NISA.

That's surprising... You'd think they would have been more thorough with the localization to make sure stuff like that doesn't happen...

You'd think.

But then, Rhapsody DS had crashing bugs too, and NISA didn't seem to care all that much...

I'm sure the PSP port of Disgaea had a bug, too, where if there were too many counters, the game would crash, too.

Never saw it for myself, though...

It was final straw I heard for the execs over at NISA though.

In looking it up, apparently people got let go over it.

Aside from bugging up Lufia 2, Natsume also has the "honor" of being the only company I know to actually misspell their own name. Seriously!

You had to have over 10 counters in a row. I suspect it's related to the whole "Counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter!" thing.

Good luck getting that many counters, though. I strongly suspect it was in the original, too.

Disgaea PSP also had the Tainted Staff and Foresight bugs, which while not game breaking, had some pretty funny problems. Foresights had a huge amount of negative Mv and Jm so you wouldn't be able to move off the start square, and had a lot of (pre-subdued!) huge specialists, like L.700 teachers and L.13710 Staticians. Yeah.

The level 700ish specialists weren't pre-subdued... I found myself going into loads of Foresights to build up Marksmen

And the Tainted Staff basically guaranteed poison. Whoo!

The English voice actors in Sonic Adventure 2 got to shout some Japanese lines, and the Japanese Eggman says yes at one point.

Yea but that's not the same as using both the audio from the English actors AND the Japanese actors in the same game for the same character.

Some poor Megaman translations suffer from these weird issues too. :p

Sonic yelling "terriya!" and Eggman yelling "yosh!" in the English setting still makes me giggle though.

Wonder what happened? I usually love NISA translations. Atlus is a little too dry for me, and Capcom is notorious for typos.
