Oh, and don't forget, if anyone has a saved copy of your page (hi, web.archive.org) they can still nail you; it's actually been used in a few cases, from what I hear. Not to mention they can probably nail you for destruction of evidence, too...

I think intent to distribute copyright files can be almost as bad as actually distributing them in some cases, really. Best not to get involved at all.

This is why I don't own a web site.

That, and if you're going to delete files to avoid arrest, you'd better wipe the entire disk with random garbage several times. (Let's not forget swap files and the like.) And that can take a looooooong time to do.

And don't forget that simply smashing in the hard drive will look even more like destruction of evidence...

In short, somehow I'm doubting you can do this successfully...

You could always use sophisticated encryption aligorithms which include special software to hide stuff inside 'normal' encryption, giving plausible deniability (I.E., "I decrypted it for you, that's all there is", yet in reality there could be more in there, but they couldn't check it, as anything could be in there) But as I said, intent is probably enough to get you in trouble. At least, in Mexico.

Also, this isn't the same as running a website. One can easily run a website without infringing on copyright laws.

There's some type of encryption I've heard of (one-time pads?) where, given the proper key, the file can be decrypted to anything. So find a key that decrypts them to porn. 'OK, there you go, but I'm telling you it's just porn..." XOR cipher can do this too (key = secretfile ^ pr0n.jpg; secretfile = key ^ pr0n.jpg), but it's not ideal; the key would be the size of the file and probably contain obvious patterns that would reveal critical information.

Was it suprnova that got raided by law enforcement officials repeatedly and kept coming back up within a few days, but was down for a week when an admin got drunk?

Downloading Linux distros is a popular use for torrents. Although I rarely ever use them to do that...
