Cell phones are allowed on your person but they must be OFF. Not in sleep mode, not in vibrate mode, but totally off. They do random cell phone audits once in a blue moon, and as long as you have one on you and it's shut off, you're fine.

(Oh, and if you have it on then it's an automatic warning letter and possible suspension.)

Anya, some of my teachers don't give phones back. They give them to the office and you have to get a parent to get it.

This fucks over those of us who ride buses! Granted, I have a trust relationship with all my teachers (My phone's out because I'm checking my time, if I'm using my PSP I'm doing work/taking notes on it - I had to prove it, but I did it) though, so I'm pretty safe from this kind of thing.

Hell, my computer class teachers trust me enough with the computers that they actually don't care that I reboot them into Linux when I settle down to use them, as long as I get my Fireworks assignments done!

My school's pretty strict until you prove yourself trustworthy, I guess.

Colin: what. Suspension for "oops, my phone didn't turn off?" Sounds a bit harsh...

I'd hammer them like crazy with a parent present...they don't really have the right to confiscate.

Could be like me and be traumatized because you lost your Yak Bak 2 to a dumb music teacher.

I'd be pissed if I had to go to the school b/c my kid was abusing their cell phone in class. I could understand if it was used in an emergency though...
