Remember my security troubles?

I actually installed DSL to a USB drive, and booted it at school. I managed to access my page, so I tested Jul out (that's why I was on a bit earlier today). Then I tried both pages on the Windows computer next to me. Both of the pages were blocked.

MySpace was blocked on both of them (not that I care, I was testing), though, which was quite odd...

If you added in a proxy, you'd be nigh-unblockable.

I might try that, actually.

Not that I need it (I don't do anything other than web browsing), but... good idea to have.

I also kinda need to know how to get sound working. I have a feeling it'll be easier than it is on my VM (I'm trying to get used to the OS with one instead of breaking my USB install), but I'm also not sure what sound cards the school's computers use.

I assume that the Windows computers are just using a proxy or program to block websites, hence.

Same thing my college had, actually (before it was set to not filter anything)

The puzzling thing about that, though, is that Myspace was still blocked under DSL, but nothing else I tried was.

I also didn't see anything suspicious in the processes, when I kicked open Process Explorer on one of them. I was thinking maybe it's account-based, with a certain level of blocks that apply globally...

With regard to sound in linux, if the thing has a newish kernel with all of the sound drivers loaded, it should work. If it doesn't, you can get an updated version of it from http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page or you can try OSS from http://www.opensound.com/ but you'll have to run the config thing every time you put it on a new computer, I guess.

As I'd posted in my other thread, I actually did get sound working where it matters.

Though I'm certainly considering debian, now, like you suggested to me...
