I don't see how this is ROM hacking related... It seems to me that you uploaded it somewhere, but now you're unable to. <<;

@Tanks: The .IPS patch locked the ROM to prevent editing with the editor is what it sounds like.

Edit: That's assuming that you are trying to fix an SMW hack...

Lol broken link.

Recover Lunar Magic is the one you're looking for. I believe all you have to do is drag the .smc file onto it, but I may be wrong.

Small note:

If the hack in question uses HDMA, you're pretty much boned. Sure, RLM unlocks it, but the graphics will show up all garbled and Lunar Magic will throw around a couple of fatal errors. Of course, this usually only happens where HDMA is actually used, but if most levels use it, well...

Um... so... after I open up the command prompt thing (assuming that's what you should do), what in God's name do I type? "rlm.exe"? "make program go now"? What? It just says to type in "rlm.exe "
Where? If I type say "rlm.exe MARIO.smc MARIOsux.smc" it doesn't work.

From the readme file:

Running the program is very easy, just run from the command line:

rlm.exe

Where is the file name of the ROM to recover, and is the
file name for the recovered output file.
If you can't get RLM to work on your machine, it's probably because you don't
understand anything about console programs. In the past, I've had numerous
people send me messages asking for help. The biggest complaint is, "RLM closes
by itself when I try to open it!" Well, that's because you're trying to use it
as if it were a GUI app. Since it is a console app, it must be run like a
console app; start up your OS' command line, and have at it! If you don't know
how to do that, I have no confidence that you will ever make good use of RLM,
any way. Closing this statement, I'd like to say that if you stop being lazy
and try to GoogleIt (tm) you just might learn something!

I can understand the "start up your OS' command line" but that's it. What the heck do I type? And no it's NOT a "drag and drop". I've tried that... and it does what Parasyte says is the reason fo the "biggest complaint".

Navigate your way to the location of the .exe via command line.
For instance, if the file is on your desktop...
Assuming CMD starts in "C:\Documents and Settings\User", you would type "cd desktop" (Change Directory to Desktop) and then type "program.exe" (Program being the name of the program).

It starts with:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\TUK>

After the "TUK>" bit I put:

Desktop\SMWRTDL\Super Mario World- Return to Dinosaur Land\English\rlm.exe MARIO.smc MARIO2.smc
as that's the location of the rlm.exe, the file I want to 'unlock' and the output file. It then says:

'Desktop\SMWRTDL\Super' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I put a "\" before Desktop but then it says the location doesn't exist.

I did manage however to get a screenshot of what actually happens for a fraction of a second when you just try and double-click the exe file:

RLM (Recover Lunar Magic) - v1.2
Copyright 2003-2005 Parasyte

Usage: rlm.exe (infile) (outfile)

Start cmd and do these steps:

cd \Desktop\SMWRTDL
cd Super*
cd English
rlm.exe MARIO.smc MARIO2.smc

That should put you in the right folder and run the program for you.

That doesn't make sense. What am I supposed to type? And what does "cd" mean in your post?

Sorry, but like most people on Earth, I prefer programs where you simply click them. Not these stupid DOS Command Line Batch things.

You're supposed to type each line separately as a command.

it's not that hard to figure out.

It says blah blah Super is not recognized as a file because the directory has spaces in it. Try typing
"Desktop\SMWRTDL\Super Mario World- Return to Dinosaur Land\English\rlm.exe" MARIO.smc MARIO2.smc

Note the "s.

Or, alternatively, if you prefer to have something to click on: Download this, put it into the same folder as the rlm.exe and the ROM, double click on it (the .bat file). It should work.

Really, its not that hard...if you can't figure out how to use a simple command line application you're kind of screwed anyway... besides wasn't this not even your hack?

This method is retarded, however it's pretty much noob-proof I guess.

Just copy CMD.EXE from your c:\windows\system32 directory into the folder with your ROM. Rename your ROM to something simple like mario.smc.

Upon double clicking cmd.exe you'll be already in the target directory, so just type "rlm MARIO.smc MARIO2.smc".
