I want to copy data to a 1.44 megabyte diskette.
But the system always fails to write data on it. What's the problem?

Bad diskette or drive is my guess.

Considering 1.44 MB Floppies are a near-dead technology, I'd just say 'get a USB Flash Drive' and be done with it unless you're dealing with a DOS or < Win98 SE system.

Thank you man!
That's true, diskettes are almost dead by now... I'll get a flash USB drive.
BTW, I just found my problem: the write switch was on the write protect position It works now!

*Fajita-chan eyes his pile of Floppies sitting in the corner...

Eh, I think I'll keep these for posterity's sake.

Those and the 5 1/4" diskettes of mine are burnt.

It's not to say I still don't use them (I do play around with DOS comps at the job...) but I know that floppy disks absolutely suck anymore. They're not built like they used to be.

I suddenly wish they were more supported. I use them as bootdisks and portable memory.

You can do the same for a flash drive.

I have a lot more floppies than flashdrives, and the last one I used failed when I needed it the most, so no. In rectrospect, I guess that's a sign I should really upgrade, but for the stuff I use it for, there'd be no point.

Of course, most of them date back to 10-15 years ago when there weren't better alternatives, and it'd all easily fit several times on a single CD

The last real use I had for floppies was to copy things to my old 200MHz computer without network access, or to look back at old crap from the above pile ...

I still have no flash drive/card/whatever or much use for one yet, though

Also, when a disk is balky, use DOS or DOSbox to access it.

Odds are it's formatted in a weird, ancient format.

I recovered my Dad's resume` from 1992 this way. Written in Word 2.0 of all things.

20 pack. Made in in 1991. Yep. They're still good.
