So yeah, I'm with Sony on this one--common sense is required. I think these researchers just wanted another notch on their belt.

.... I've been gaming for twenty years, had plenty of long gaming sessions, and the only thing I get from controllers is some callus thing on my left thumb when I played NES as a kid or when I play fighting games with a D-Pad. And I have no pains from that. Well, maybe when I haven't played fighting games for a long time, but that quickly goes away ;

What's the Wii got to do with this? I doubt a Wiimote could easily do this as it's not shaped like a normal gamepad.

... cause, you know, people don't grip the Wiimote hard enough to prevent it from flying out and breaking something.

The only game system I can say has actually hurt me is the N64. That analog stick always made my thumb sore.

Also, I really doubt the Wii's controller can actually do the same thing here, considering the vastly different form factor. GameCube controller, maybe... assuming it's not just a product of the sides of the controller, which are different between the PSX design and pretty much everything else.

The only system to have ever hurt me, really, is my PSP. It's light, but it hurts if it falls on your toe.

I might've also missed it, but it doesn't describe how she was playing, if she was pressing the buttons too hard/too furiously, etc... There's really not enough information there.

Well, they already did:

Other researchers have identified acute tendonitis from playing too much of Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii, and now a disorder related to the PlayStation can be added to the list, the team said.

Not only that, but they explicitly mentioned that it likely has something to do with the PS3 controller itself:

The researchers suspected that grasping the console's hand-grips together with repeated pushing of the buttons produced minor but prolonged injury to the palm of the girl's hands, which can be made worse by sweating during a tense game.

It's not like they're proclaiming your PS3 to be Satan or anything.

The only tension I've seen from anyone using a controller was my friend through an N64 and that was because he crushed it one-handed after losing too many matches of Pokemon Puzzle League.

Needless to say I found that rather stupid with him bleeding a bit afterwards. His rage was something else back in the day.

The only time I've ever hurt myself playing a game was with Mario Party.

The N64 controllers, in general, were pretty shitty.

I've been hurt by games twice.

1. When my brother accidentally threw my NDS across the room and it hit my foot.
2. I fell asleep and smacked my head on a table when I played to much Mario Kart: DD (needless to say, I lost the race)
