Oh wow. I just got a letter from my old crap ass job at Citi that's basically trying to pull the same thing on me. Only they're not asking for it back, they're demanding it!

They claim that my last paycheck before I quit was actually an overpayment. Now this is complete bull because they're claiming that my last paycheck paid me for 130 hours, and I now owe them $1267.50 by the end of the month

. My last paycheck from there was $84, and I never recieved a check for the period that they're claiming I did. If I did, especially for an amount like that, believe me, I would have noticed. I even double checked my records to be sure. Now I have to deal with a bunch of hassle and possibly a lawsuit until this stupid thing gets sorted out. I tell you right now, one way or another, they're not getting the money.

Also, of course it isn't anything new; payment errors happen. BMF got paid $50 one week when he should've gotten $300+. Mistakes happen.

Did you think you'd get away with it if your employer suddenly gave you twice your normal paycheck?

Hell no, they'd want that back.
