This is why I keep my windows closed. Course, I'm only on the 2nd floor.

Poor girl, she was trying to do the right thing and looses her life instead.

So. Details would help here.

"Reaching out to secure a window grille" and "trying to replace a string" really don't explain it that well, particularly to where you can judge how smart/stupid an idea it was.

As it is, looks like generic "home improvement gone awry", just from 9 stories up.

...Really, how do you fall out a window while trying to replace its lock?

But yeah, still unfortunate.

This is why I would never allow any window of mine to be open or secured with any less than really high quality materials if I lived that high, pets or not.

Yeah, that. It might not look that good, but I'd much rather have some sort of bar or gate over the bottom half of a window (or at least some sort of 'shelf', forget the name)

Generally when in situations like this, I stop and think of an overly complex, but safe, solution.

Maybe it'd be too late, but if it wasn't, I could save the cat and protect my own life, and be able to tell others how smart my idea was later.
