I can master HTML, I can use javascript, I can even program in PHP.

But... you see these gradients in my layout?

I can't make the pictures, the gradient things. No, I know. Xkeeper has already eliminated the difficulty of making the gradient image with a handy tool, not to mention many other things can make gradients.

But...

How does one make them form cohesive bars with rounded or square or triangular or WTFular edges? I can arrange them once the images are done (primarily, a stretched horizontal middle image and a left and right edge picture) but I can't make 'em to save my life.

I think Dreamweaver can make them on demand, so there has to be some simple utility I'm overlooking here.

Well, whenever I do a gradient in an image, I usually make it in Photoshop to the size and shape I want, using vectors and such.

Gimp and Paint.net seem to be pretty handy at gradient images too.

Actually for "corners" I just use the jQuery* corner plugin. Works great and has the benefit of mostly working across all browsers. Though the borders themselves look not-antialiased.

There's a bunch of ways to do this using just CSS and images, apparently, but I haven't bothered into looking into any of them, and usually require an excessive amount of HTML for my tastes.

* actually, for any task requiring javascript fuckery, I just use this. It's a *huge* timesaver.

Excellent. I already hacked one way to do it with pure HTML, but these appear to fill in the missing info.

I'll probably use this huge break I get to make some new corners and colors then. While this layout is nice, my favorite color of blue is much darker, and I'd prefer more sinister looking corners.

This requires a) access to Javascript and b) using pure colors, not anything else (afaict), which won't always be good.

So eh.

Actually, I just use the corner plugin if and only if it looks fine without the rounded borders.
