Isn't this by Caramell while Popotan is the anime which the original animation hailed from?

No. As far as I know, that's not the case. It looks for what it's related to in that SM or DWI file.

I'll just forgo all of that and make people specify images then.

I'm not opening every image in the archive just to figure out which one might be appropriate, so it's better to just not bother than try guessing and ending up picking the wrong one.

So I tried it out last night. I liked it a lot. Definitely harder than the other one I have but it's still well done. Haven't tried Challenge but from what I saw on the step charts, I may have a bit of trouble clearing it.
