Got a friend who lives in Australia. I should try to contact her to make sure she's okay.

Plus a few ex-board members live there as well. Hope all is well. Those are some nasty fires.

It seems like most of the areas that got toasted were rural ones, so I think most of the ex-board members down there are fine.

That's still awful, though; hope they catch the idiot that did it.

I've been reading up on how hospitals are over run, that they are running out of pain meds and that an entire town fell due to the fires.

One of the mods over on SMWC lives near there. He posted today letting us know that he's okay, but things are very strange for him...

Yeah. :\

I know how it feels to be near one of those fires, at least; the entire sky was gray and it wasn't unusual to see ash raining down from a nearby wildfire. That was back in 2003~4 or so, and was pretty different.

The air smelled like smoke wherever you went... it's not a great experience.

The fires really haven't affected my area, though there was a bad fire fairly close, maybe 5-10 minute drive away? not even?

I know what it's like, being in California. Routinely, the rich people's houses get burnt down by huge firestorms every summer. It's like I'm in an apocalyptic movie whenever that happens. Smoke and darkness and orange clouds everywhere.
