$280 for five programs, three of which I'd actually use. Sounds like a rip-off to me.

The way they structured what programs come with what edition makes absolutely no sense to me..

So, if I buy one edition and find out later I wanted or now need Access, etc - I have to go out and buy a new license?

That's what it sounds like. It's not like with Windows Anytime Upgrade for their OS packages where you can turn around later and go 'oh hey there's certain features I want in a better version of Windows' and go from there.

And even then, that's restricted to certain things.

Digging further into it, it seems they've killed the concept of upgrading ENTIRELY because of people's lack of buying it and supposedly piracy/counterfeiting.

It's kind of funny that they're doing that in response to people not paying for Office because that's would only make me MORE prone to pirating it.

Seriously, I'd be livid if I bought Office and then found myself in a situation where I needed Outlook or Access and was being told I had to buy another license.

It's official now. This family is using software that's been outdated 3 times by now.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. And for the asshole professor who sends out assignments in .docx, OpenOffice is there to save my ass.

I have no intentions of buying this. I don't plan on upgrading until the point where 2003 becomes extremely out-dated. And considering I rarely use Office unless I'm doing coursework or FanFiction, it seems incredibly unlikely I'll ever upgrade.

I still only have Office 97 , but hey, if it works and it's still usable, why not? However, for most serious things, I use OpenOffice.org... even more now since Office 97 won't even install on Win7 x64. =)

I've used OpenOffice.org since 2004. I figure, why use a commercial program if a free one suits my needs just fine?

It was annoying when teachers largely switched to .docx format, forcing me to upgrade my OpenOffice.org to read them.

I use WordPad.

I have no need for any sort of office applications right now. If I absolutely need to open a .docx (hello, Web design class), I use MS's free viewer app.
