It's still really, really early WIP, so I don't know. It just came from a random thought of "hm, I wonder how the maps in EO work anyway...", then downloading an EO1 ROM and getting to work... and later managing to copy over the save data from my actual cart (thank you, Slot-2 M3 Adapter I thought was dead!), so that I have access to more of the game for testing purposes, than when stating a new game

Anyway, I don't have and thus haven't tried 2 and 3 yet, but I'd assume it would work, with some modifications if even that. They all look quite similar from screenshots at least.

There is, actually. Although progress has been stalled by the sudden improvement in my hacking ability to do ABSOLUTELY ABSURD CRAP.

Something dumb I'm working on:

Basically you get the Wind Waker at the start and abuse glitches to get through the game. Going out of order, especially skipping early things, causes crashes that I'll have to either fix or just block off. It's just some text changes and a reasonable amount of added or changed actors to increase difficulty and force players to abuse glitches to progress. I'm also planning on replacing caves with unused ones, as there are plenty and I think it would be interesting. I don't know how far I'll actually get on this, but I've already learned a lot about the game.

...but I don't know a way not to corrupt the ROM in the process. That's the reason it got discontinued after GFX, Block Mappings and a World 1-1 remake (plus a long multi-path level for testing the GFX).

Sure, you could use the MarCas editor (it will never corrupt a ROM), but then you could not edit the object layout.
You'd need Moojelly for that but... let's not talk about that tool... ROM corruption without warning ahoy.
Even if you use the tool only for object layouts and it doesn't give any critical warning, it still corrupts the ROM.
I learnt this the hard way.

Shoot, I'd need to hex edit the object layout for this.

Any ideas?

NOTE: This hack was slightly worked on after the video. I have removed the duplicate tiles, so I could add a proper flagpole.
The mappings have also been reorganized to make space for the extra flagpole graphics, plus some extra blocks have been added.

That looks amazing! Super Mario land 2 is one of my favorite games ever. If you're interested, I've done extensive documentation of it. This hack is my work, and also a few other SML2 hacking videos on YouTube. I was the key data provider when MooJelly was under development and the SML2 overworld editor was a duo project between Treeki and I.
I've also figured out the overworld path format and some sprite tilemaps.

It warms my heart a lot to see someone interested in SML2 hacking these days. If you need any help at all, I will do my best to help you.

What I used for hacking was a private release of MarCas that supports editing object layout and warps. I've since lost it, but I'm sure someone has it..?

Heh, I remember I liked how that hack looked like.
Anyway, that MarCas release would be great!

MooJelly is a good tool, but it didn't get enough testing. Did they even see it always corrupts the ROM when trying to do a more advanced hack (not a single level)?

MarCas, as limited the public release was, it did the job without problems.

Fun-Fact: I originally thought MarCas was incredubly limited in level designing, giving you restrictions on how much a level should be big. Then, with MooJelly, I realized what happens if that limit wouldn't have been placed.

So... yep, the most important thing for now is trying to hex edit the object layout of a level.

Overworld editing would be the last thing needed (but still nice to have considering SMB is linear).
