A look at everything completed thus far in Donkey Kong Country 2: Brigand Barrage, the next installment in the DKC boss endurance series:





Unlike DKC: Boss Blitz, records are saved for each individual boss, as well as the total time. New records are displayed in blue on the Results screen. You can also choose to play cooperatively with a second player, or fight a single boss.

Edit: Here are all of the team colors, as they currently (as of June 11th, 2012) appear in the hack:


I can't make up my mind if I want to keep the orange Dixie (in color scheme 2) or Diddy (in color scheme 7) the same, though. Dixie's pink ponytail just doesn't complement her clothes well enough. Orange Diddy is fine to me, but his colors are supposed to mimic orange Dixie's, just as his pink palette makes him resemble normal Dixie.

Should I go with 1 or 2? A or B? I'm leaning toward 2 and A. Went with 2 and A.

Hmmm, that screenshot with the egg.. I mean, I know the pirate bird boss drops eggs that you use to kill him with. But that screenshot..Diddy is climbing on the rigging? Is this the boss level or not? Am I going crazy? This is just a boss rush right?

Regardless, fucking awesome stuff man. The team colors are like wow..that old school Gameboy green palette looks like something I'd totally pick.

You climb the rigging in between phases on the Krem Quay boss (the ghost pirate bird). Hit the boss a couple times, climb rigging to the next level, repeat.

The GB color set amuses me for no good reason. I concur with 2/A; the shading looks a bit off on B, and 2 looks more tangible to me than 1.

@ AlexAR: That screenshot is of the Kreepy Krow boss level from Gloomy Gulch, where the rematch with Krow (who is just a ghost at this point) takes place. Each time you hit him, he flies to a higher point in the level, and you have to follow him by climbing the rigging.

I'm glad you like the hack! Out of all of the things created for this, I've had the most fun with the team color palettes. My personal favorites are 2 (Yellow Diddy/Orange Dixie) and 5 (Purple Diddy/White Dixie). Diddy's palette in the latter is based on my favorite color scheme for him in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

I just finished the single-battle version of the Results screen:


And about the palette questions I had earlier: I went with 2 and A.

That pile of shame of "stuff I started to code but never saw through to the finish" is really growing... at least it's something new this time around, as opposed to yet another emulator or something:



Got a partial understanding of some of Mega Man Legends' data (PSX, not PC version); the archives in CDDATA\DAT, the TIM-ish images inside them (weird custom header), even some 3D model data - vertices and partially polygons, enough for some primitive rendering of Volnutt's head.

Have yet to add model rendering again, tho, after rewriting the whole BIN archive code. Also don't yet know how to reliably determine certain file contents (code, models) and lengths (anything that's not code/models and pseudo-TIM).

EDIT: A whole lot of experimentation, a faked PSX framebuffer and some other stuff later...



(And the 8+ windows I've been juggling around during those last 4+ hours...)

It looks like you're about to die.

The new sprites look out of place alongside the original Koopas, but I'm assuming you're planning to change those too. One concern I have is that the goomba looks smaller than normal. I'm not sure how collision works in SMW, so I don't know if that'll actually be a problem or not, but you may want to look into that.

So hey. I wonder if you people remember the New super mario bros hack which ports Super Mario bros and The lost Levels in NSMB.
After a long time of not working on it because some events happened, I decided to work on it again. Progress is very complete and it shouldn't take that long to complete it.
Also a random pic here demonstrating the new 2d lava with the old graphics:

I had to go with the 2D lava rather than the in game one, because the in game one spans over all the level, and you cant segment it, making some areas in the original SMB levels difficult and I can put them exactly in place as their original levels now.
(Yeah, it uses pillowshading , the castle tileset has little to none space for new graphics so I had to do them simple, and I used the original SMB1 skeleton graphic for it)

Unless you're changing all the CO lines to be some form of "Yes I know what my power is going to do" as opposed to the current "Alright, it's time" type that it is (or however it's describable), my opinion is to state something that doesn't point at a meteor strike so blatantly. The way it's worded here makes it seem to me something more that, a human player would say as opposed to the CO itself. Unless he says that line in AW2? In which case, well...ok I still think it's a lit' bit too ridic'.

From what I've tested, it doesn't seem to be a problem. But that is a pretty good concern.

I changed the world map icons of NSMB and started to changed the over worlds texture to match the themes of the original SMB and LL.


I am trying to make this remake as good as possible
