How is Nexomon, anyway? I've been interested in some replacements for Pokemon in the monster catching genre, since... well, there's no point re-prosecuting what's gone wrong with that series.
Rough in some areas but enough for me to make a nine-hour straight-through play up to this point in time. I'd venture to bet it's about 30-40 hours. It was on sale so I picked it up.
In general, it feels kind of in the past for some features, the biggest setback being the obvious problem with leveling. You can see that one's way out front and the rest are somewhat in the back but all even. The percentage-based leveling system only tends to affect one Nexomon and not all of them...though that will eventually change with enough mats and investment. Still feels kinda dumb by comparison in the face of Pokemon's EXP Share that does the job a lot better.
It's a problem because the fights themselves adjust difficulty as time goes on and I'm assuming once you get past certain 'gates' in the story. Plus side is you can always grind it out, especially on being able to refight trainers, but it kind of falls flat in a lot of respects for wanting to do that, so I tend to have an out-front character and several from behind picking up slack. They're all fairly underleveled for what the story is but the main lead is way out in front, so it tends to be what it takes keeping my high level 'mon alive in all fights and just bulldoze with low ST cost moves unless I really have to crank it for boss fights. I'm not a fan of that but I can see how the endgame will get better once you have better ways to level across the board but it just feels awkward for now. Not a fan of having to go back to 4 directions instead of all directions either (which, ironically enough, even the game calls out later on).
As for the story itself and the dialogue...better than I would've expected. I like Coco. Coco is a good character.
I feel like if they could iron some of this out the third go round, as this is the second Nexomon game in the series, and add multiplayer this would be a lot better of a game in general but as it was for 13 bucks, I'd say it's worth a look if you liked Pokemon at all.
