I've been playing a lot of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty lately. I wasn't particularly satisfied with just beating the game, so why not try fully completing it by holding up guards, thus getting their dog tags? At first, I thought this would be a fairly simple task. I'd just need a checklist of a sort via Notepad, and play the game as I normally would. Well, playing MGS2 on Very Easy/Easy wasn't exactly fun. Attacks from bosses barely hurt you, defeating the need of rations. So after getting all the dog tags for both chapters on Very Easy, Easy, Normal, and Hard, I moved on to the only difficulty remaining - Extreme. Now, I've played Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (more specifically, the Subsistence version) on Extreme, and it really wasn't too hard. I died several times, yes, but there was nothing insanely hard. At first, MGS2's Extreme mode seemed pretty typical. There were more guards and cameras, but that was about it...until I got to the first boss. Two hits. Two hits is all it took to take me down. Even with rations (and I could only hold two - not to mention that they're incredibly hard to find), I could only handle four hits without dying - the fifth hit would do me in. Basically, I HATE OLGA D: So I move on to the Plant chapter. For the most part, it's fine. There are more guards around, but it's nothing a little stealth camo can do. So that wasn't that much of a problem. Fortune's fight was absolute cake, to put it simply. It's amazing what a cardboard box can do at times. However, Fatman was a slightly different story. I died once or twice during the fight, and that was because I didn't diffuse the bombs in time. So, again, not too much of a problem. ... aaaand then we get to the Harrier. Man, oh man, I was lucky as hell to not die on that fight at all. My two rations saved me from lots of frustration. In short, I never want to do that fight on Extreme ever again. So x happens, y occurs, z takes place. I'm now fighting Vamp. This fight was a little tough at first, but I went on YouTube to see some strategies. I found one particular strategy, involving the major use of hanging on the railing, that made the fight piss-easy. So that took a few tries, but not too bad. More events happen, and now I'm fighting
Spoiler: the Metal Gear RAY army. Joy. This fight, much like the Harrier fight, is supposed to be as hard as hell. ...Ironically, I get through the whole thing without getting touched once. A tedious, intense fight. I was glad I got that over with. So then more events take place, and it's the final fight. Woo.
Spoiler: So, after tons of trial-and-error, I finally finish the fight by a thread. At this point, I've fully completed the game, having collected all the dog tags.Argh, Solidus. What a pain in the ass you are. HRGH RAAAH IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO. Anyway, Solidus's missile-shooting thing was hell. One missile touches you, and you're pretty much guaranteed a death. So, after watching a video, I "avoid" the missiles by slashing them with the HF Blade. I died quite a few times to get the timing right. Even when I had the timing down, the camera was a rather large issue, but I eventually got my positioning right. The second half of the fight wasn't so bad, but I still died a few times. Apparently, hitting Solidus three times and then running away from him is a good strategy. This is because, when you back away from him, he won't shoot all over the place and become fairly unpredictable. He'll just lunge towards you - nothing shocking there. ... So yeah. That's basically what I've been doing with myself for the past week or two. ![]() --------------------
