Geometry Wars 2 is half off this week for XBL Gold members. I loved the original, and I'd grab this in a second if I had an Xbox.

Amazon has an offer where if you buy Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox, you'll get Mass Effect for free. It's about the same cost if you were to buy them used, so if you're looking to own both games I'd say that's a pretty solid deal. Ends April 10th.

Modern Warfare 2 is free to play on Steam from now through the weekend. So if you're like me and want to know what all the fuss is about, well, get on it.

Some GameStop.com offers:
20% off all game purchases worth $49.99+. Use code "ENT20".. Expires April 10th.
25% off purchases $100 or more (except consoles and harddrives). Use code "25OFF". Expires April 30th.
15% off 360, Wii, or PS3 games with code "15NEW". Expires April 30th

Can I get an interest check? I don't want to keep bumping this thread if it's not helping anyone

I like this thread, personally. Hell, I'd have never known about MW2 being free to play, not that it matters for me.

I can definitely say that I check this thread and appreciate it.

Unfortunately I can almost only use Steam offers, but I still like the thread idea.

Keep it up!

I like the thread too; it's a good idea to have one we can all use to alert people about Steam/other site deals.

In celebration of the Steam free weekend, Modern Warfare 2 is on SALE this weekend... however, it's only a 15% discount. Hope you didn't get your hopes up too much. $50.99, savings of $9.

I never had Steam before, although there might be neat, little games which sound quite interesting, like Puzzle Quest: Galactrix or Braid. Personally played Modern Warfare 2 through the singleplayer - it was in the video rental were it was not supposed to be, as it will be tied to an existing Steam account. But rented it, "made it" playable for the SP.
As nice as it was, the single player was just a tad too short (7-8 hours maybe), but it seems the game is built around multiplayer much more, the campaign being some kind of tutorial. But you need a LOT of patience to download the multiplayer portion, as it is about 8 gigs and everyone probably wants/ed to play it until tomorrow.

So I tried the the game online, and surprisingly it ran well, even though this entry does not feature dedicated servers by Infinity Ward. But in the end it will be interesting only to hardcore fans, as the main problem is its unlockable weapons. You start with bad weapons and have to finish quite a lot of games, until you finally have those nifty perks and perhaps the best stuff. That doesn't mean, it is impossible to win with level 1, but if you compare two skilled players at the same level with a hefty varation between levels, it is sad that the level will probably decide. If this was optional, it would have been better, as many players just sit out and camp (the game even encourages that by offering the sniper class quite early). Also I only really liked the Headquarters Pro game type really.

So, even if 5-6 hours may be a bit short to judge the multiplayer, basically it is really nice looking. It runs fluently on a mid-range video card with several people. It is just not a game for people which play singleplayer only. If you tear through games like butter, I'd wait until the game drops to a reasonable price, because for the campaign it is just a tad short. The fact this one is made up quite well (minus the airport mission, I just don't understand what happens in the end) just doesn't redeem its little duration.

The question is, how long will this game actually live? CoD4/MW1 is said to be better be some people, others say that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has the better multiplayer, but if you cannot run mods or change little more than some generic options, like amount of health and round duration, it will not help at all (but if you are EA or Ubisoft *cough* ...)

As for Steam itself, it is okay. It is not all all bloated as I expected (25-30 MB of RAM usage if fine, though), although the initial advertisement/news page (in full mode) strongly markets Valve's own and its partner flagship titles. But it was enough for me; I wanted to test one of those "war games" online, got what I want and at least know a bit about that, uninstalled Steam.

Glad people are reading it. I'll keep the first post updated too.

I don't have anything significant to add, but I keep hearing about this method of getting $25 off of the Collector's Edition of Starcraft II:
1. Add this pre-order to the gamestop.com cart
2. Add a $0.99 item
3. Use code "25OFF" at checkout.

If you must have the collector's edition, this is probably the best way you're going to get it.

Also, gamestop.com has 20% off all Wii and DS games valued $29.99+. Use code "20TENDO". Expires April 12th, or when used by the first 1000 customers. I'm probably going to get a new WarioWare D.I.Y. with this, saving me about seven bucks. woop

Dell is having a $40 off sale on the white DSi, bringing it down to $129, which is the cost of a DS Lite.
I wonder if you can apply the student discount to accessories.

This is a strange one.

RETRO-BIT Retrogen Portable Sega Genesis Handheld is on sale for $30 (half off). It plays Genesis and Megadrive games, and you can plug into your TV. Apparently it's superior to the Nomad in screen quality and battery life. Ends 4/20.

You seriously have no idea how tempting this is. I'd probably grab it up if it actually had a better screen than my PSP...
