I've just been messing about with the nsmb editor, and it got me to wondering if anyone here might know of one out there...I've tried a quick google search and turned up nothing so far...

Well the old fad of "Googling gets you answers" is actually false.

For example, I googled "When will I next be having carrots for dinner?", and I got nothing.

But seriously, there should be a Mario Kart editor. I can't believe Nintendo haven't thought of implementing an in-game one. Codemasters did it with Micro Machines '96 and V4 (as well as the DOS version of Micro Machines 2).

It never hit you that those two are more simpler games?

Also, googling takes you far but you can at least check out some big ROM hacking sites before asking. (Like ROMhacking.net )

If you can't find anything after a few google searches, then the answer is likely that it doesn't exist.

I've managed to switch around the files of tracks. Each track has two files: .carc and Tex.carc. The download play courses have two additional files, marked with a D. I tried switching the files around to play different courses using Download Play, but when I replaced any of the non-D files, download play freezed while downloading. Chaning only the D files works, though. The leader plays the original track and members the replaced one.
The format is going to be hard to figure out though.

No. It does not exist, and I don't think there ever will be. Who knows there will be in 3 years, but I am certain there won't be.

Mario Kart DS is a fully 3D modelled game, that's what makes it harder to hack. Mario Kart DS hasn't even been looked at for hacking possibilities. I'm no expert at this, but this should answer your question.

If it's coded anything like Mario Kart 64, don't count on it being hacked any time soon. Considering the DS is the handheld parallel to the N64, it's likely they use similar designs (i.e. EVERYTHING IS HARDCODED IN 3 DIFFERENT PROPRIETARY FORMATS), but since the hardware itself is so different, the actual code is also likely to be very different from anything else.

Now, why nobody's hacked Super Circuit yet... I've been working on more awesome things. What's your excuse?
