You all act as if the occasional horribly obnoxious gimmick is new. They may not have shown up in the Genesis games too often (your mileage may vary on pretty much everything in Sandopolis act 2), but Sonic 2 GG brought us hang gliders and ride-the-bubble.

They may not seem quite as annoying, but the thought was there.

Also, it's one level. All of the other ones shown appear to be pretty solid.

I'm not sure what your point is here. This isn't something trivial like Sonic's eye color, this is a level in a video game that doesn't look remotely fun to play. Just because bad gimmicks aren't a new concept doesn't mean we should accept them in today's games.

Sonic games aren't all about speed.

Go play Death Egg Zone in Sonic and Knuckles and tell me you just need to run fast to beat it. I dare you. Sonic games are platformers. They involve jumping from platform to platform. If the player is good, they get to go fast. If they suck, they need ot take their time.

And while that level does like like a retarded gimmick, it'll probably be easier on the PS3 or Wii that the 360 where they need to use the trigger buttons.

The problem isn't holding right to win, nor even the screen tilting. The problem is that the level itself is horrible! (and the physics that go along with it)

Put actual timing jumps and better designed obstacles to control your speed and you have a good even if simple mine cart level. Add loops and very innovative riddles if you want to use gimmicks.

Put spring boards (specially convined with those physics), Big Rigs physics, and pretty much everything that is in the video and you get one of the worst levels in existence.

Yes but that level only had the mine cart intermittently for short periods of time which is how it should have been done if at all, not THE ENTIRE ACT. Plus the gameplay was actually fun and not atrocious. Also, I have never played that game, but that level looks a lot more fun to play and less broken than the one I just saw for Sonic 4.

Plus I am not OMG SUPER HARDCORE SONIC FAN! EVERYTHING MUST BE EXACT CLONE OF SONIC ONE OR ELSE FAIL! Fuck I was perfectly fine with Shadow the Hedgehog AND Sonic 3D Blast. I give Sonic games a lot of leeway. Frankly I don't see why everyone is so uptight over classic Sonic. They are just games like anything else, not gods. And yes I grew up loving Sonic 3 & Knuckles just like the rest of you, but I don't fucking worship it. The classic Sonic games were far from perfect just like any other game, but now since there hasn't been a decent sonic game since that one, all of a sudden ALL SONIC MUST COPY IT EXACTLY BECAUSE NOTHING CAN EVER BE BETTER! I mean really?

Personally, I really don't care. My only requirement for Sonic games is that they are fun to play, or at least mostly fun, and preferably have kickass music. Sonic 4 can use all the gimmicks its wants, update sonic any way it pleases, give him *gasp* LONGER QUILLS and put sonic in a freaking mine cart, and I really don't care. They just need to ACTUALLY BE LEVELS THAT ARE FUN TO PLAY!

Sorry but that level looks VERY badly designed to the point where getting through it would be an absolute chore. I don't want to constantly get stuck in a level after rotating my screen around awkwardly while just trying to get Sonic to JUMP! So far the physics for this game look like shit, and if the gameplay and controls suck ass, then so does the game. This is true with ANY GAME and just because its a sonic game in the 2d style doesn't excuse from bad game design. Now if I play this and it turns out being a blast, then awesome, but right now I haven't seen anything to get my hopes up over.

I'm talking more "Don't let go of right" than "Only push right"

Happens on Sonic Advance 2 in that video. In order to use the wall spring to get up, you need to be at the tip, which is to the left.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
