Yes, of course you can help. If you know C++, DS homebrew, and are familiar with ROM hacking, go ahead:
http://code.google.com/p/nsmb-editor-ds/

The editor is licensed under the GPL, anyone can contribute (and all the contributions will be credited )

Ah well..
Didnt thought it was that hard, ill take a look at it.
But, when I open the editor on the ds.
It says for example "tileset 13" how do I know on ds only.
Which tiles belong that specific tileset.

Sincerely,

dirbaio

Man, the DS editor is NOT complete
so there are some things that can't be done with it.

You're going nowhere if you plan on ONLY using the DS version.

I really don't know.
I think you're supposed to install it somehow.

I've never had a Mac.

r137 is out now.
It basically improves hugely the performance of the BG importing.

I feel like I was a n00b when I coded that... Why was I iterating over a 64x64 array 64x64 times?? Now it's much faster. Now it's possible to import complex images, like real photographs, in a much shorter time...

On the subject of quality: it's just impossible to import the BGs with perfect quality. Each BG can have max. 320 tiles.

In the game are many unused BG files, but you cant import BG's in it. It is possible to do, that you can import in these ffiles, too?

Well, it's not easy
because they are not "files" but "BG id's".

There's a table that maps BG id's to File ID's. But those unused bg's are not linked to any file. So it'd be necessary to add files, and modify that table.

The latter is easy, but the first one... I have no idea how to do it without screwing up all the file tables
