Seen here, it seems that YouTube is thinking about starting renting movies that you can watch right on your computer. Sounds to me that they want to compete with NetFlix.

this is something I'd use if done right. I've rented a movie through Amazon before, but it would stop to rebuffer several times, since they couldn't just let me download the thing.

The problem with that is the price, which is pretty ridiculous seeing as I can go to the shop and rent the same movie for less than half the price YouTube demands.
