If you do actually battle on FSMB v3.0 watch out. There are a few *cheap* things in some levels I changed in a newer version. Just as a warning Castle and Underground will take a while with unlimited lives and 10 stars.

LOL I rarely do unlimited lives. usually i do 5 lives. it makes the game fun cuz the objective changes into "kill your rival 5 times"

2 questions:

1. Can someone please PLEASE help me with hex editing a rom? i was looking at earlier and Boris u said you would post a video on how to hex edit the multiplayer places? Please do that it would be great because i'm having trouble with the method Chicken Bones posted.

2. how can hex editing mess up a rom? i heard it can mess it up.

sorry but im having alot of trouble with multiplayer editing. i did make a ds download play map before . only a few mega mushrooms blocks as a test, but nothing much. this is very difficult. i cant do the method and the r116 dooesnt work. Everyone is having success with these too...

shadey, my video will be showing the levels I created, not how to do it... sorry. Chicken bones posted a hex editing method. Try to follow it the best you can. When you get stuck on a part, post the part you dont understand, and i will try to explain that part to you ok? Hopefully that will help.

could somebody help me with this step?

Step 10:
Copy your entire File Allocation Table (where we edited in step 9).
Go to offset 0x2310F4 in your rom.
PASTE WRITE your new File Allocation Table.
Save your Rom.

i dont know how to do this step.

remember a few steps earlier when he said open the narc, the rom called download, and a new blank file? Well, the new blank file contains the information you copy/pasted from the rom. That info is the File Allocation table. So, copy all the information from the new file you made. Go to the rom called download, and go to offset 0x2310F4 (Ctrl+G, type in 2310F4, press OK) when you are at that offset, right click and pres PASTE WRITE. When you finish that, go up to File (in the hex editor your using) and press save. After you save the rom, you can use that rom for ds download play. ^Hope that helped^

oh and for this step.
Step 8:
Copy all of the data from the narc file (Dat_Ice.narc).
PASTE WRITE the data you copied at offset 1 in the rom. (make sure you paste write not paste insert. When you paste write you overwrite data but when you insert you shift all the data below you foward and your rom becomes bigger. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE)

do i open the narc_(level) with HxD? to copy all the data?

Yes, he said that in an earlier step. You open the narc in HxD, and copy all of the data(right click and press select all for it to be faster) And paste write it at Offset 1, which is the offset you choose for yourself. (either 1400000, 1410000, 1420000, 1430000, or 1440000) Im pretty sure those were the offsets he mentioned.

um i did everything fine and it just freezes when i try to load the map i hacked. i think its firmware. im using a ds and a dsi v1.4. im using the firmware.nds on the dsi . any suggestions??

I keep hearing that theres a problem with dsi. the other ds is the ds phat right?Does the phat have the blue firmware? I used a phat with blue firmware and a lite with pink firmware. First, tell me every sprite you used. And make sure you dont use the objects for the end of level brown castle, as it freezes the game. Maybe I can tell the problem from a certain sprite you used? Did you change view size? Move path nodes?

um no its a ds lite . by firmware is it when u take out a game in pictochat? it goes purpley/pink screen. but should firmware.nds not work? all i did was make the level bigger and i kept it in 256x256 pattern

I think you have to keep the height the same, and make the width on in the 256 pattern? because the original widths of some levels is not in a 256 pattern. Try that and see if it works.

Well i changed the size on multicard to like 8192x256 and it worked. the method said anything on multicard now works on ds download play. i might have hacked the rom wrong but i dont think i did. maybe if you could upload one of your roms that you hex hacked just to see if its a firmware problem or if i hacked it wrong.

Im sorry, but uploading roms is illegal. When I completely finish all 5 levels, I might upload a patch. I cant upload a patch now, because i would feel uncomfortable uploading something that isnt finished. One of my levels freezes when you open it, and the other is only changed a little. The third has a bug. The fourth is perfect. The fifth i didnt start.

If you can change both, why do the ORIGINAL levels have a height that is not a multiple of 256? I may be wrong, but I think you shouldnt mess with the height. Or maybe it has a different pattern?

Maybe I can help you out. Just upload the .nml's (export the levels) that don't work and send me the link. I'll fix them up for you.

what I have been able to get to work with just the editor. No hex editing. Yes it does lag in some parts and there is a glitch in one place (from being soo huge).

But it works.

Try importing it with the editor and pressing both the NARC buttons.

I love the level! Not really a good level for battling but I like large size of the level. Btw, the graphics for the metal pipe connectors don't work.
