Once again Apple proves they're fatally lax with regards to security.

Android devices aren't affected, as Google has long since patched the hole. Windows Mobile devices can also be affected.

This is not surprising given they sat on a Java-related vulnerability for about six months before releasing a fix.

Yeah, I noticed after posting this thread.

I don't think the vulnerability will be exploited yet, but it is there and will likely be exploited in the future. Or patched, if Apple gets off their asses and produces a patch.

Alternate source:

Apple had to be feeling pretty red faced on Thursday afternoon, when cyber security experts Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner announced at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas that they had figured out an SMS exploit that could potentially hijack every iPhone in the world.

But if that wasn’t bad enough, they then went on to announce that they’d told Apple about the exploit over a month ago, and a fix still wasn’t on the way.

Oh, yeah, only when it's actually announced do they bother fixing it, rather than being proactive and fixing it as soon as it was discovered. Way to screw your customers over. :specialed:

Edit: Appears to be a carrier-related issue, too, if I'm reading things right.

Nothing like some good ol' Apple insecurities. They like to pretend holes only occur to Microsoft.

Well...not like they're used to the term 'virus' a whole lot.

Cuz no one wants to hack it.
