You can't.
Rice is the only one. It was built for this purpose.

Since there seems to be an on going trend for using extreme hires textures (textures with sizes larger than 512*512), I'm posting GlideHQ settings for the game player to achieve best speed performance. See attached screen shot for quick reference.

1) In the "Graphics Plugin" control panel, open the "Texture enhancement" tab.

2) Select or tick the following settings;

Texture enhancement:
Filter = None
Enhancement = None
Texture cache = 256 Mbytes
Ignore backgrounds

Hi-resolution textures:
Format = Rice format
Alternative CRC calculation
Apply texture compression
Use alpha channel fully

Common:
Texture compression = FXT1 (Select S3TC for hardware that does not support FXT1. Selecting this option automatically converts hires textures to FXT1 or S3TC format. S3TC is the collective term for DXT formats.)
Save texture cache to harddisk (hires textures will load instantly from the second load.)

3) If your PC does not have enough free system memory, set the "Texture cache" to a smaller size. If you are still low on memory, also tick "Compress memory used for texture cache" in both "Texture enhancement" and "Hi-resolution textures".

---
Extra tips:

4) If a certain hires texture does not load, try toggling "Alternative CRC calculation". This is a *very* important option. Read Gonetz's explanation. Texture artists should also read 6), 7)

5) If a texture shows borders or cracks where there shouldn't be any, try toggling "Use alpha channel fully". Texture artists should also read 8).

---
Important information for texture artists:

6) When dumping textures with RiceVideo, always set "Full TMEM emulation" ON. Read Gonetz's explanation.

7) Always check if there are textures with duplicate IDs in the texture pack and remove the redundant ones. The following post explains this.
http://www.emuxhaven.net/forums/show...5&postcount=13

8) When using the alpha channel to mask a texture, adopt the following practice.

http://www.emuxhaven.net/forums/show...9&postcount=92

9) GlideHQ accepts textures with magnification ratios x1, x2, ..., x(2^n) of the original size.

Happy retexturing!
