And at some point someone makes a post that nobody replies to, and it all falls apart...

That just means you need to make more threads. They don't last forever.

Which requires new material to bring. Not much else you can do when the classical, "what are you eating?" threads run out of steam.

I'm trying my best! I think we need more thread variety, yeah.

The hard part is coming up with new ideas (or ideas that you want to post, anyway). It's much easier to just barf out an incoherent thought on Twitter or Facebook than it is to actually write out something more substantial.

I think that Jul's relative atmosphere of being really strict on so-called "low quality" type threads is a bit oppressive, too. Did you know that the original Acmlm's Board has a forum called Big Topics (or so) and it was literally just a bunch of megathreads like "word association" and silly trivia?

Even though it was relatively contained, people still thought it was "too spammy", and it ended up getting removed, and threads like that made verboten. People took post counts very seriously and they were seen as "gaming the system", in a way.

The later runs (adminned by me, of course) were even stricter ... In some ways it worked out, we got rid of some of the worst people, but I think we focused too generally on "low quality posting" and not just... bad posting.

I don't think that culture has ever really gone away.

Truth be told, the upsurge in activity really is infectious. It got me to participate more often, anyway...

The administration (as well as a few users) have decided that you're creepy/weird enough that it's time to activate the sploded clause.

Same here...
But that said, I must watch myself, this is a point where my safeguards against doing/saying stupid shit, or becoming triggered, become significantly lowered...

jul has an activity spree while I'm on vacation, that's just not fair man

But taking a few days (well, two weeks really) to go visit my father a few miles away from the city was really great, things feel a lot less rushed and busy there, really helped me ease my mind and reorganize myself a bit. It also wasn't in the middle of nowhere, so even though there was green everywhere, the internet still worked to some extent. Naturally I was away from Discord and most forums and social media. Opera Mini really helped me get the best out of the limited metered internet available there.

I ended up unlocking Intense difficulty in Mario Party 5 (I will say it again: this game's Story Mode SUCKS) and Expert difficulty in Mario Party 4, along with getting most of the remaining presents in the Present Room. Watched a few movies, played a few games, laughed a lot, discovered that my father's computer can't run GlideN64 (it needs more than OpenGL 2.1 to work).

Time to catch up on a few things I guess.

It isn't like it's over. I don't think it's a spree as much as it is just activity, in general.

A spree is a lot more fleeting and would've ended by now, but things are still going on.

Weeeeeee!

Also it's great that your students like you, what were you teaching? 'w'
(and for what it's worth I'd rate you 5/5 too, great friend, very fluffy)

I was just a complementary teacher on an optional subject on arduino programming, so nothing major, but still pretty nice!

And yes I really need a new layout aaaaah.

Do you do other uC programming? It's becoming an interest of mine and I've spent this summer slowly getting my head around the STM32F4 (taking a break lately, but I think I'm about past the burnout). I've had a few classes on it (8051, sadly) and done some MSP430 and MSP432 for school design team work.

Only as a hobby, really. My favorite is the Z80 and I've been hacking at the Game Boy and Master System.

From what's actually relevant I've toyed with AVR assembly but not much beyond that. I've coded for PICs but only in C.

Neat. A lot of the older, quirkier stuff I haven't messed with, but I am interested in picking up z80 and 68k someday.

I only really know 6502, but I'd like to know more about Z80, especially the Game Boy variant. Though admittedly much of my ability to understand it comes from disassembler tools

I'm pretty much in the opposite situation, I've done almost no 6502 but would like to learn! We should get together at some point, maybe :p
