I'm actually starting to consider a phone mainly due to the fact that I can't get a hold of certain people. Work schedules and such. :\

If I ever do get a cell though... I only need it for calls. No real extra functions needed. (Well... maybe Twitter.)

I need to get a new physical phone rather than a plan. The one I have, the screen likes to fuck up a lot and it's irritating to get a text message only to see the screen give me the equivalent of a middle finger.

U.S. Cellular did tell me that I can go in and get a new phone at a cheaper price at any time, so...I might as well do that.

Get a prepaid one then, like Net10 or Trackfone.

Cheap enough, and you can get a phone without extra junk.

I had a TracFone before but I honestly didn't like it all that much, mostly because I never talked to anyone enough to make the minutes worth my while, and the minutes are friggin' expensive last I remember.

I still use Tracfone. I buy more minutes for about $40 every 3 months or so. When I had a landline, it cost about $52 per month.

I buy 200 minutes as needed. I bought double minutes, so I get 400 plus whatever promotion bonus I can get from codes found on the Internet

It's not monthly, it's just whenever you need more, although they can expire if you don't buy minutes for a while.

Pay as you go... that's tricky. I could do that but some providers don't let you store minutes. In other words, once you cash the card in you have X amount of time (30 or 60 days) to use up the minutes; otherwise they go poof.

I don't understand this either.

You have a limit on how long until you must buy more minutes. So you buy 300ish minutes every 3 months for $30 or so, and just do this every so often. About as cheap as it goes.
