Not always. Consider for instance a beer company that asked for a forum… (it never went through, but still). They wanted it to be heavily modified to go with all the rest of their branding, so it would have been quite visually interesting.

But it would also need to have security and interoperability that I've found this platform lacking. Not to mention that I can't just hand over an Acmlmboard to another developer…

It's not that I dislike it, it's that I have to consider something else for any project where I'm likely to be paid.

Yea, I love many of the unique features of AcmlmBoard, especially the JCS, the EXP system, and the item shop

The item shop add-on available for SMF pales in comparison to the one on AcmlmBoard, definitely...

I agree with Taryn. The board's great for what we use it for, but imagine trying to backend a 50,000 user forum with this. It would need a lot of work and general maintenance, plus you'd really need to work on security.

I mean, we're secure as can be until someone figures out a new hack, but...

Anyone who's seen the code will probably say that It's certainly much better now, but if you want a no-fuss instant forum (just add water), then PHPBB and SMF are very good ways to go. And despite how good options PHPBB and SMF are, writing my own forum is something I've been toying with for the past six or seven years because of the Acmlmboard, and never come close to doing what it has

I remember when you were working on that years ago Do you plan to ever release it or start a board based on it?

And (speaking generally) if you're gonna use an overused system like phpBB, for goodness's sake change the damn theme Do you want your board looking exactly like so many others?

Default themes are ridiculously boring with forums, especially when almost every IPB or phpBB looks the same

It's many times easier to create a colour scheme for AcmlmBoard than phpBB, IPB, or even SMF

Seriously, don't use phpBB... it has too many holes, bugs, etc...

At least AcmlmBoard doesn't have that many bugs anymore

My old forum had about 5 spinoffs or more. HRWF had SiBHOD, HRWFWF, HRWFWFWF (?), Box of Baskets, and maybe tohers I'm not aware of.

There must have been at least 20 (or more, even) AcmlmBoard spin-offs back in the 2005~2006 era... I think it all started when AcmlmBoard 1.A was released to the public for download, and then people started their own AcmlmBoards on a site called Funpic

I don't think any Funpic boards are still around today, AFAIK

I had an AcmlmBoard briefly in early 2003, but it never got much activity, and I think it went under when my host deleted my Web site I had accidentally uploaded a .nes ROM and not a .ips patch, and apparently they delete Web sites with no warning for that

I never used an AcmlmBoard at all, although I would like to eventually

However, I've used phpBB (), MyBB, and SMF, all of which pale in comparison to AcmlmBoard (for one thing, there's no RPG system on most other board systems, and the item shop is pretty cool too... where else can you get items like Xkeeper's Goggles?)
