Closest friends I have are those I met at the arcade 30 minutes from here. My friends I've known since kindergarten don't even talk to me anymore and either still live at home (which wouldn't help the predicament) or moved in with others already.

Then again, I lack a car, therefore no job. Living in the middle of the woods is fun until you want to go places, in which its just impossible to do without a ride.
Save up, buy motorhome (or van if you could stand to live in one), move into it. Not a great option, but if you must move out...

Although I guess that'd require a job. Hm. Could you perhaps sell things or provide services over the Internet?

Sounds like how mine were, except they also mangled any attempts to talk to them... I've learned that talking directly is even worse, though, but here's a sample:

"There's this nice place called rentacoder -- basically you can do coding projects for others and get paid for it, and there's a lot of information on it... a few people I know have even used it. The only thing is, I need my SSN for identification, so if I could have it..."

After going though a mutual friend (who was usually quite helpful...), and ... well...

The message I got back a few days later is that, aparrently, somewhere down the vine it was translated into "give SSN = free money", and attempts to explain how this was wrong didn't work.

After that and the previous last batch ("I'm kind of silently considering moving to Washington to get out of here, but it's just an idea, not anything I plan on acting on yet" -> "You're moving to Washington and you're going to get raped/killed/tortured/etc by some internet nobody")... I'm done with her...

The inability to communicate well seems to have gone though my entire family, as even a simple message an get mangled and mutilated. It's like playing hyper-telephone, where instead of taking several people to change slightly, it's changed incredibly by the first two people.

Communicating with my family is useless to me too. I told them my strategy and they still think I am taking winter classes. They said I'll have a job by then, but my definition of having a job is sticking to it for a good 4-5 months to actually save money, not a week beforehand, which with how things are going is the best that is going to happen. Not to mention that when I do anything around the house (from simply taking care of the trash to cleaning the livingroom) it gets overlooked if the dishes remain unwashed. They also don't trust me with money, strangely. They hid my own money when I quit Red Lobster to prevent me from spending it. Ironically, my brother couldn't even hold 300$ cash at a time.

Then again, they can't keep promises. I was promised a car oh so many times now (2 years ago a 1000$ cash down payment I gave them, looking for a new car for a year, deciding to browse a month before I was done with high school, promising a car for my graduation gift, getting me a car when I left for a week "vacation", etc.) and... yeah, I'm getting pissed.

They also complain about me doing nothing, but I can't do anything if I don't have a car. Even if I were to go do something I get complaints about doing it (Going to the arcade? Oh no you are going to be late to work although I can just go to your work and walk to the arcade ) and it doesn't help matters that my sister is allowed to go places before I am, even if she did something she wasn't supposed to do (She one time didn't get home until after her curfew and the next day she was still allowed to go to her boyfriend's house AGAIN).

I'm just getting tired of my family in general. They don't appreciate the things I do, as they see video games as bad, when ironically my brother is worse with games than I am. In order to have a conversation with him, you have to know WoW terms and he talks about the people he met through the game. =\
