I've tried to post here before, but it didnt show up...
I am a...
I can't actually call it a proper hacker, I just started some weeks ago...
I am from Norway.
YoshiElectron (or yoshiman) and SuperMario803 inspired me to start hacking SM64
It all started when I edited YoshiElectron's code; talk to Peach. In that code, Peach would spawn outside the door at the castle, and if you talked to her the letter would pop up and dissapear after a while. I edited it to make peach say ''You need a key to open this door.'' using YoshiElectron's exposed message codes.
Now i've made codes like Bob-ombs instead of leaves (it's like the bob-ombs from trees code, only they act like leaves.) and Goombas that behaves like coins from Goombas (or as I would like to call it ; Cannibal Mario)

Hi, I'm a SM64 and SMW fan. First time I've played SM64 when I was 8 years old. I'm a real computer and SM64 playing genius (but I'm a real ASM dummy). I want to create a new hack: Super Mario Hero 64!

Hello all. You can call me EpicGuy or Alex, either one is fine.

I'm originally from Wales, but am currently residing in a sleepy valley town in Oregon, USA. I've been playing video games of all genres --with the possible exception of shooters-- since I was 6 years old, and emulating since I was 10. Now, at 15, I've furthered my evolution into hacking, I suppose.

I've got a long way to go, but I'm hoping to create a hack as close to a brand new SM64 game as possible (new storyline, smooth stoytelling, updated graphics/music, etc.) for my Senior Project along with a few other fellow high schoolers with an interest in gaming and technology. TT64, has shown itself to be our best (easiest) bet. We're all still Freshmen, so there's a few years yet for VL-Tone to improve upon TT64, and become what I hope it will be; a user-friendly, all-access pass to the secrets of SM64.

My I.Q. is 157, so if I come across as condescending or arrogant at times, I apologize in advance. But, If anyone needs help with anything EXCEPT hacking, I'm your man.

I may have convinced my aforementioned friends to join up, too, so a few more faces might or might not pop in within a day or two.

Cheers!

Welcome EpicGuy!

But boy, how come people can still believe in the simplistic idea of "IQ" tests? Does human activity consist in such a narrow range of abstract cognitive skills? Isn't there something else more distinct and unique of you that you should present instead of a number?

Oh yeah, ranting in forums is fun.

IQ only measures a small part of one's intelligence.

However, as someone whose demeanor at a young age like that has unintentionally freaked out and gotten me into fights, I can recognize another intelligent person who appears to have somewhat similar experiences to me. (Although I have no clue what IQ I have, I was second alternate on Challenge of the Child Geniuses II... I scored pretty well on their test, apparently. Well, I also graduated from high school two years early, and... ..enough about me, I never stop talking about myself.)

TT64 may never be the perfect all-access path to SM64's secrets, but if you have an IQ of 157, you should be able to comprehend the code behind it all with some practice, which would in time give you the sort of control over it VL Tone and Messiaen have.

If I had more time I'd look into it myself, but I run too many websites and do college all at once.

I would love to see more intelligent people here, in addition to those we already have.

As for creating a new SM64 style game, have you considered programming one from scratch? ...Hacking SM64 to that extent may be more difficult than programming one on your own... (for complex, long-winded reasons I won't flood you with here and now.)

Well, apparently I do, hence, arrogant and condescending. I believe that number gives me status over others. AS for its uniqueness, mine is but one out of a pool of infinite numerical values, all of which are unique. It is used to measure the value of my particular 'narrow cognitive abilities', and I was using it to illustrate how I might, in three years, go from knowing little to nothing about programming, to hopefully creating a brand new game. My ability to learn quickly will prove to be very useful in my endeavor, I should think.

Like I said, TT64 -seemed- to be our -easiest- bet, and it may at least be a good starter for getting into some more hardcore programming. So, either it'll be an excellent learning platform, or what we'll use to design the final product. The others have suggested we just design our own flash games, mostly because they fear some sort of Nintendo crackdown if we involve ourselves with hacking their games. And, there is still time for either consequence, I suppose. We'll just have to see how it plays out.

I apologize if my question sounded aggressive, I just felt like provocating you since you seem indeed a smart guy.

My view is that hacking isn't about high intelligence at all. Usually most tasks are pretty simple and just require enough stuborness, focus, skill and sometimes intuition (which of course can only come from previous knowledge). If you are interested in hacking as a challenge, you should be looking at cracking compression/encoding alghoritms or reverse-engineering more complex parts of the game, such as movement/camera code that requires a good grasp of trigonometry.

Anyway, looking forward to see what you can do.

The name is Ganef.

I am a contemporary artist.

I've been influenced by the ideas of Bourriaud, Nietzsche, Deleuze, and Guattari.

I believe Mario64 can be a platform for post-modern art.

I plan to turn the SM64 game into a virtual art gallery.

Let it be known that I am the first fine artist of the community.

Wow, and I thought I had an ego.

An art gallery within an art gallery? Interesting concept.

Hello, my name is Kile. I am very new to hacking roms so bear with me. I have lots of experience with various other aspects of computing, such as cad, cam and inventor and setting up multiboot systems(I'm not sure I'm allowed to expand on that here, so I will tread lightly). I am also getting alot better with photoshop and gimp. Blender is still a bit tricky for me though. I have only dealt with hex editing once, and it was just mindless byte flipping of data from my registry. That was spoon fed to me though. I am looking to go deeper and learn the mysterious properties of the SM64 rom. I'm not sure after reading the FAQ if it would be appropriate to post my intended project here. If this seems like a long post it is only because I felt it proper to introduce myself in a thorough and well punctuated manner. Hope to hear more from you folks.

Edit: I think I made it sound like my project was shady. I simply meant that I didn't think this was the appropriate thread.
