Well now the Steam severs are spotty, so servers that have since updated won't let you change weapons.

I just realized this right now. If it wasn't for the random drops, I wouldn't have gotten the Huntsman and Jarate.

If it wasn't for the Huntsman and Jarate, I would've never bothered playing as Sniper, meaning I would never unlock the Sniper items.

I'm even more glad for the random drops now, but it's still nice to have those weapons to be unlocked via achievements. Just there're multiple paths to get somewhere in a TF2 map, there should be multiple paths to getting weapons

First of all, I agree with you to a point about the Backburner; the Flamethrower is far more useful if you can use the compression blast properly, but if you aren't that good at it for whatever reason (being new, for example), the Backburner can be more useful.

Yeah, but even if you can't use it properly, it can still be a huge help in Arena; after all, water is usuall nonexistant (or distant, period), healthpacks don't exist most of the time, and every health point counts. Putting out fires is very, very simple.

And once you've mastered compression blasting, you'll never go back.

Second of all, the Flare Gun can be quite devastating if you've mastered it; an experienced Pyro can use it effectively at both long and medium range, and, generally speaking, Pyro vs. Pyro battles don't usually involve two Pyros burning or shooting at each other with no other tactics or outside influences.

The problem is that the Flare Gun is a projectile, not a hitscan, so if you need to hit somebody now (e.g., a fleeing Scout), it won't help you at all.

I've used my shotty to finish off a fleeing enemy I ignited. In most cases, if I was any later to that attack, they would've escaped (via corner or anything else), and the flaregun isn't very effective if you've already lit 'em up.

It has its uses, yes, but generally it's useful in less circumstances.

Last of all, the Axtinguisher is almost entirely more useful than the Fire Axe, unless you happen to be in a melee-only match; the Axtinguisher can take out classes such as Heavies with ease, and, teamed up with another Pyro, it can annihilate entire groups in seconds. Underwater fights are typically uncommon, and ammo is often easy to find, so I see no real reason to keep the Fire Axe over the Axtinguisher.

That may be, but it requires several things:
1. You ignite an enemy
2. You manage to get close enough to them without getting mowed down
3. You melee them

This is time you could use to either ignite other players, continue applying fire (which does kill pretty fast, considering), or retreat and focus on other targets.

And yeah, underwater really doesn't matter too much considering that almost no fucking TF2 maps have any water deep enough to matter... but when that situation arises, if you're using the Axtinguihser, you'd better hope you have the shotty or you're more or less boned.

(Also, keep in mind Pyros/Snipers can douse flames, so you have to be quick about Axtinguishing them too.)

With that said, I, personally, use only the Axtinguisher out of the new weapons; I'm not that great with the Flare Gun, and I find the compression blast far more useful than critical hits in a situation where I would often kill my opponent regardless of whether or not I was achieving them.

Yeah, the compression blast is almost too useful. Soldier came up to start blasting rockets at an important sentry... I sat near the dispenser and reflected 90% of them back at him. Then they ubered... so I ran up to them and shoved them up, around, and over to where they couldn't hit it

I got called a hero

Xenesis: It didn't stop. :/

And seriously, what is up with the TGP servers? I cannot get a good connection at all to them, and it seems to be the only server I have problems with. :/

Eh.

My opinion?

No System > New System > Old System. There was never supposed to be prestige attached to the sidegrades, they were just supposed to get the classes doing something other than their original things. The grind just got in the way of playing TF2.

Like the Dead Ringer, it was fun while it lasted. Now to avoid playing TF2 for a few days because 11/12 of the players on each team will be a sniper and/or spy all trying to get the items at once, rather than eking them out to the playerbase over time. At least idle players didn't affect the gameplay.

I don't know if you noticed this, but there were literally over 1,000 people at a time idling for items in idle servers. Because the drop system took considerably longer than the achievement system, these players were idling for longer periods of time, and playing less.

I agree, though; no system would be the best system.

Oh, I'm aware the impatient were idling to get unlocks. That's not really an issue. The issue was the game was unplayable for a week because people were all achievement farming in normal servers and stacking most of the team such that you just had that class. If it doesn't get in the way of playing a normal game, it doesn't harm anyone.

Yeah, that's always the worst. I ran in as a Scout at some point in to my own base after my mouse freaking out and pointing upwards in the middle of 2fort, and I started bonking people left and right, freaking out because I couldn't kill people, even shouting about it on the mic. I then ran downstairs, tried to grab the intel and...Oh.

It's kinda disappointing, because they brought in the milestones, and it seemed like they fixed the random drop system at the same time. I got a Razorback and the Ambassador via random drop after I had already gotten them. In a half hour of playing.

Not so much that, but after your view jumps straight up and starts spinning around for no aparrent reason, especially after a firefight, it's not difficult to get disoriented. I usually figure out what's going on after a few seconds, though.

Try being laggy guys.

getting backburned every 3 seconds because you can't turn around is no fun.

In other news, I'm at a gaming cafe kinda place and I've been playing laggless, with graphics on full.

And I managed to aquire 2 Nataschas, and the Razorback, get a domination and revenged on in 0.3 seconds, and I got beat down by an ubered Engie.

It's been awesome.

I've got nearly every item save for The Ubersaw and The Razorback.

I've also managed to get one of the original achievements too: Head of the Class.
