More on the sniper update.

Close range sniper... Sounds good to me!

As a Heavy, I must agree. There's no more I can say than that.

I can close range snipe pretty well. This unlockable had better be worth the trade off which is likely quickscope headshots.

I was thinking something along those lines actually. I wonder what the downside of it would be though... Weaker body shots?

Ok, I am now available to play this game since my essays are all through with. New and updated opinions on most of the classes after a quick solo-play...

Scout: A good dodger coupled with the double capture speed can be bad for the enemy, but my bad evasion coupled with his bad health means for a quick death.
Soldier: Sure the offense is nice, but I cannot master anything with him as far as I'm concerned. Rocket jump went pretty poorly.
Pyro: Not yet retested.
Demoman: He's a demo, buy the full version of him for $39.99 in cash. Bad joke aside, I couldn't seem to make any decent use from him.
Heavy: Not yet retested.
Engineer: Either I end up with a single Lv1 sentry or I take too damn long. Playing it wrong, I'm sure.
Medic: Call me when I test him with an ally.
Sniper: Thou shall not become good at hiding thy laser. And even then I should have a hard time hitting from a distance.
Spy: I thought the cloak lasted for 10 seconds? This feels like five to me.
So if you guys feel like playing a round with me, keep in mind that I'm not used to any one class yet. Maybe I'm too general to pick any single one, but I'm hoping that I'll find a stick.

It takes a little while to get used to classes. I'm still getting used to them myself but I'm getting better at scout, sniper, pyro and soldier.

If you need to get in and out of somewhere very fast, though (e.g. CTF), it's useful. Otherwise, generally only such to get points captured with another one quickly. Aparrently x4 is the fastest speed (110%), meaning if you have one or two people (50%, 80%) you can contribute pretty nicely (up to 100% or 110%).

Soldier: Sure the offense is nice, but I cannot master anything with him as far as I'm concerned. Rocket jump went pretty poorly.

Rockets are really hard to use, and they're something that will outright kill you at close range... good for taking down sentries if you can find cover to dodge in/out of.

Pyro: Not yet retested.

Burn everything, including teammates and corners. You are the spy's worst enemy.

Demoman: He's a demo, buy the full version of him for $39.99 in cash. Bad joke aside, I couldn't seem to make any decent use from him.

Find a place you want to boobytrap (e.g., an important Sentry), lay down stickies. If you see it getting sapped, right click. Otherwise, keep out the grenade launcher for any other threats. Protip: You can also stuff them on the outer edges of doors or ceilings to make them a lot less visible to the poor schmuck.

They're also surprisingly good at taking down sentries. 3-4 will usually kill even a L3 and the Engineer next to it (though you can go for all 8 if you want to launch the poor bastard to the other side of the map )

Heavy: Not yet retested.

If you want to go defense, find a place that a sentry isn't covering but is still a vital choke point and plug it up. A good example is the battlement entry area in 2fort; scouts love to jump into that hall while doped up on punch to avoid sentries, but if you plug yourself into that hallway they're going nowhere and you can pump them full of lead as soon as it wears off. Resupply rooms are your best friend.

For offense, find a medic, storm the base with an uber and use it to take out sentries if you don't have a decent Demoman (preferred) or Pyro.

Engineer: Either I end up with a single Lv1 sentry or I take too damn long. Playing it wrong, I'm sure.

Wrenching building objects decreasees build time by half, and this effect stacks. If another engineer is building, help them out first; a L3 sentry is much, much better than even 3 L1s.

If you're building next to a resupply room, build a Sentry, go back to a locker for more metal, then upgrade it to L3. Dispensers are either useful to you or useful to block hallways (enemies and you can't pass though them).

Warning: You can be shot by your own sentry! Warning 2: Spies can sap it faster than you can remove it, so focus on getting the spy away before fixing.

Medic: Call me when I test him with an ally.

Basically a good idea is to rotate healing (for me). If someone is taking damage, always heal them first and stay back. Otherwise, keep everybody with as much health as possible by healing all the people around you.

(Be sure to check for spies if anybody is acting suspicious.)

Sniper: Thou shall not become good at hiding thy laser. And even then I should have a hard time hitting from a distance.

I hate snipers.

Spy: I thought the cloak lasted for 10 seconds? This feels like five to me.

It lasts for 10, but 1 second is spent activating it and 2 deactivating, so it's really more like about 8. Keep in mind if you bump into an enemy, you become visible, so avoid that. (Not that I can really give any advice, ahem)

Best Team Fortress advice? Don't play 2Fort. You'll learn the game much faster when you play maps designed to the game's strengths rather than a retextured Quake Map. It's a bad map. But yes, what Xkeeper said.

When hiding teh sniper dot, hide it on somthing like a doorway or a nearby object. When the enemy appears, move it and fire. Sometimes it is good to crouch when you aim so you are harder to be sniped back.

As for targets, Snipers, Soldiers, Heavies, and Medics are easy to snip. It's hard to hit a scout, unless he's running towards you.

Pyros are not that bad to snipe either, but they're not usually something a sniper needs to worry about, unless he has the Flare Gun.

If you're lucky, you'll miss your shot and hit a cloaked Spy instead.

I've done that a few times, especially to a cloaked spy that was right in front of me.

And when Sniping, Pyro's are a huge threat if you are offensive sniping.

Oh yeah, I guess. My only real sniping practice was on orange_x3 and 2fort, so I don't know much about offensive sniping.

In 2Fort, I am rarely sniping on teh battlements. I will usually do it on ground level, the sewers, or even at the top of the enemy sewers where I'm sniping enemies inside their own base.

Yeah, I don't snipe from the battlements either, just because there's usually three snipers on the other battlements who want my head.
