Hey I've been working on this hack for about a year now (I think), and just got back into it recently. This is a SMW hack that I made that includes total remakes of every level up to Vanilla Dome Ghost House.

Some features include:

Custom File Select Screen Movie
Custom GFX for many different things (Foreground Objects, Sprites, etc.)
Custom Credits
First World is similar to Super Mario Bros.


To-Do List
----------

Rewrite World One Text after Boss is defeated (My old text is terribly generic)
Finish BOTH exits from Vanilla Dome

Also, you have a ridiculous amount of ugly palettes crammed into those two screenshots (foreground, status bar, and what is up with the TIME anyway?) Fix them.

Bad background, sudden death not good, bland.




Bad MARIO, bad TIME, bad coin counter, bad ground, bad sky, not a true remake of 1-1 due to flip blocks.


Please try harder and fix errors with the hack, as already said.

Sorry about that, Status bar is from my early days when I was messing around with some downloads from Mario World Central, Fixing it now...

Pallets are still...terrible. You might want to just leave them alone if you can't make them look presentable. Just ask yourself when you make those kind of changes, is this the kind of game I would find acceptable to have paid money for? If the answer is no, you're probably doing something wrong. I'm sure the hack is far from unsavable though, just keep working hard

Really, you just need to try harder. Making a custom status bar is good and all, but only if you do it right. And even in the revised screens, the ground still makes me want to puke. =\

If you want to go for custom pallettes, look at the original pallettes for a base, of sorts. The grass should be a regular green, not somewhere between green and yellow. The dirt underneath the grass should look like dirt, and not barf. (Seriously, that's the only thing I can think of to describe that.)

That what's happen when I don't reread posts, by the way.

So let's go at it!

- Status bar, obviously. It seems that from the first time I've read the initial post (which is a while ago, I must admit), it has improved. However, if it's not broken, the colors still aren't great (it's not just the coin counter, mind you).

- Overall colors. It's a bit harder for me to help pinpoint what is wrong with this (I am not familiar with the restriction of SMW). Still, I remember SMW bushes and ground not looking that bad. I assume it's just a palette thing, though.

Keep in mind that even if colors are part of the graphical experience, they are not graphics (i.e: even a game with relatively primitive graphics will be played by a bunch of people if it's good, horrible colors will be a huge turnoff).

Another thing, while not really a part of the hack, is the format you used for your screenshots. JPEGs with the compression you used really make the screenshots harder to judge (therefore, it could really just worse than it is.)

One last point that I'd like to address is something that bothers me :

Let me tell you already: don't. IIRC, it's been done quite a bit already and unless it's done extremely well, it'll give people a bad first impression of the hack. Unless you're saying "A first level that'll play like SMB" (I'm not aware of huge gameplay differences between the games, but heh).
